The members of The Terry Family’ and Friends throughout the city, honor the Memory of departed members of that family, The Terrys.’ The original famiy consisted of live members, Mr. Curtis Franklin Terry, his wife, Mrs. Mary Elen Terry, and their three daurfiters. Vivian, Wila Mae, and Louise. Shown in the picture, too at left Mr. Terry, husband of Mrs. Terry and Father ol their three daughters. (Demise, October 10th.) Mr. Terry was widely known throughout the city and state as a fine watchmaker and Jeweler. The huge dock, which stood at each of his shoos locations, now by decision of his family, belongs to the city. It stands within the Qty-Maiket Arena lacing the City-county building: it was Mr. Terry's Trademark" and now, as while he lived, serves as a valuable time-piece to thousands of working people and interesting enough Mr. Terry is currently being honored by the Indiana Historical Society for his outstanding service to the city and state. Mr. Terry was a fine, strong family man. His greatest py was in providing a beautiful home for his family. He was a lover of nature; he was widely known among reputable nurseries; and was known to have cultivated surrourxfng the beautiful family home, one of the most beautiful yards and flower gardens in the city. Too right Mrs. Marv Elen Terry, wife of Mr. Terry and Mother of their three daughters: Vivian, Willa Mae. and Louise. Mrs. Terry was a deeply devoted wife to her husband, Mr. Terry, and Mother to their three beloved daughters. She was in every wav a beautiful and lovely lady; she loved her beautiful home, found her greatest joy in participation in all phases of activities pertaining to the personal enrichment of the members of her family. She gave her unwavering devotion to her husband, and they thoroughly enjoyed their children in participation in their growth and development, enabling all of them to become university graduates to become outstandng leaders within the community. Mrs. Teny never worked outside of the home; she enjoyed the tender, loving, and protective care of her devoted husband; frequently she visited his jewelry shop where she thoroughly enjoyed meeting and greeting their many customers. At home, the impact of her warm, radiant personality helped to make of their home a sanctuary where members of the family felt secure and hgpoy in the blessings they shared m being a happy, loving and closely knit family.
Every-day, she reflected joy in the countless wavs she stnved to make home beautiful 1 and she exercised her creative ability also in working cooperatively m developing the beauty of their garden. While her husband, during Ns spare time, worked with the trees, shrubbery and lawn to make the garden beautiful, Mrs. Terry worked on planting and cultivating the flowers! The flowers were many, vanegated and beautiful! All the family and their many fnends looked upon Mrs. Terry with adoration and admiration. It is easy to remember her as a flower among the flowers! (The date of her demise, April 17th). Mr. and Mrs. Terry were members of Bethel A M E. Church. Shown in the picture: lower at left, Mrs. Vivian Terry Moore. Mrs. Vivan Terrv Moore, the most recently departed member of the Terrv Family." The beloved Vivian is the most recently departed member of "The Terry Family". • - departing this life October 12,1994. Vivian was the first bom child and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry. She rendered an outstanding service in education; she made a tremendous impact upon thousands ol young people throughout the city! Vivian, upon her demise, was the widow of Mr. Daugherty Moore, a prominent mortician. Vivian Terry was a product of the Indianapolis Public Schools and of Butler University where she earned her A.B. Degree: she earned her M.S. Degree from Butler, which qualified her for licenses as supervisor of guidance and secondary principal. She taught English. Journalism, and Distributive Education: she began her teaching career at Crispus Attucks High School as a young teacher in Spanish. Because of her professional efficiency and fine sense of dedication as a teacher, she was promoted to the position of Dean of Girls under the administration of the pnndpal, the late Dr. Russell A. Lane In this position she became widely known and loved throughout the city • endearing and lovingly referred to as “Dean Moore’ Due to the influence of her father who was a fine craftsman, Vivian enjoyed the distinction of being une of a few women who are licensed watchmakers and jewelers n the State of Indiana She was a member of Witherspoon United Presbyterian Church and subsequently became an associate member of the Tabernacle Presbylenan Church In lower picture to the right is Mrs. Willa Mae Terry Radliffe Her passing, that first September dav represented the first break in the circle of the Terry Famiy" She was very young at the bme of her passing, and her passing sent shock waves throughout the city among the many fnends of the famiy. Willa Mae, at the time of her passing, was the wife of Mr. Harry A Radii tie who also held and has held high positions within the Indianapolis Public Schools; they were proud parents of their little girl "Betty Jo" Willa Mae was the second child or the middle cNkt of Mr. and Mrs. Terrv. She was a product of the Indianapoks Public Schools and of The John Herron Art Institute, completing her degree in art from Indiana University and The John Herron Art Institute. She served as the Head of the Art Department of Cnsous Attucks High School dunng the span of her relatively short career. She was a very popular young teacher, widely loved and greatly admired by all who knew her! Wila Mae. as of her sister, remained a member of "Witherspoon Presbyterian Church’, while also participating in activities of “Second Christian" where her husband and his family, the Radliffe s. were members. The surviving and youngest member of The Original Terry Family" is Mrs Louise Terry Batlies, the widow of the late Paul A. Battles.
