Infinite Inc. and Colts team up for Backyard Football Festival 2003
By BARATO BRITT Recorder Correspondent The Indianapolis Colts are enjoying the success of a team poised togodeep in the playoffs this year. This weekend, the Colts will go deep into the community’s “back yard” for a little football action. The result of a partnership with the Colts and Infinite, Inc., one of the state’s largest Afri-can-American owned marketing and communications agencies, inner city families will get a taste of Colt's hysteria through Backyard Festival 2003. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 23 at the Riverside Community Center, 2420 E. Riverside Drive. The football festival is a fam-ily-oriented event, designed to offer the community access to Colts activities and to community agencies that benefit Indy youth. Indy Parks, Clarian Health Partners, RadioOne, Indiana Black Expo and the NCAA’s Stay In Bounds Program have also teamed with Infinitetoco-sponsorthis event, which is free to the public. “Consider this a community reunion,” said Tysha HardySellers, CEO of Infinite Inc. “This is an opportunity for everyone to come out and have a good time. Infinite is proud to support business outreach efforts and give back to the community.” Although the event will provide families’ access to an array of social and community services, the organizations are hoping also to inspire team spirit
Tysha Hardy*Sellers for the Colts. Despite one of the best records in team history to start, the Colts have only enjoyed one sellout in three home games this year. According to Infinite Managing Partner Melvin Graham, the partners are seeking also to build upon the team’s relationship with the city’s African-American community. The product of months of collaboration with the Colts, Infinite pitched the idea with the intention of creating an annual outreach event that will be held in different areas throughout urban Indianapolis. "One of the important things on the Colts’ agenda was to find ways to give back and let the community know they care about them,” said Graham. “So we went out there with an idea that would bring the Colts right into the neighborhood, our ‘back yard,’ if you will.” “(Infinite) came to us with an idea of how we can reach out to the African-American community,” added Nicole Duncan, director of Community Relations and Marketing for the Colts. “We wanted to make sure our fans could get closer to us. We’re always looking for ways to expand
our community outreach. This was just a natural lit for us.” Et »r t he Colts, the lesti val serves as a pep rally of sorts, as the Colts take on the I louston Texans Sunday in the RCA Dome. The Colts will bring the "Colts in Motion” tour, the team's road show, and will haveeheerleaderson hand to add to the festivities. Despite the heavy emphasis on community awareness, the event will also pay great attention to encouraging youth football. The Colts, in fact, will use Saturday’s effort to promote its youth football initiative. T hrough the initiative, theColts offer families access to various opportunities, including tickets to games and on-field access prior to home games. “This festival is more so for the general fan," said Duncan. “There’s always been enthusiasm for the Colts in this community. I think you’ll find it a little more this year. We’re continuing to look at ways to reach out." Eor Infinite, the effort serves more than just positive community relations. The growing firm hopes the African-American community not only comes out to support the event, hut also takes something of benefit in addition to getting “cranked up” for the Colts. “We do want to put some emphasis on sport, but we see this primarily as our way of giving something back to our community,” Graham said. “We’re not just out here to make money, we wanted to do something positive for the entire community as well." Additional information on Backyard Football Festival 2003 can be found by calling Infinite, Inc. at (317)935-9456.
