Eberbach who has designed graphics for major firms such as AT&T, Coca-Cola, HBO, IBM and Sears. The art on the bus includes arts and attractions along the route of the Blue Line. “This project started over three years ago and it began with some funds that were awarded to IndyGo by the Indiana Department of Transportation through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant,” said Mross. The CMAQ grant was for $2.5 million, the City of Indianapolis presented IndyGo with a $625,000 grant and IndyGo also received a grant of $17,880 from the Cultural Development Commission for installation of art on the buses.
Aside from trying to improve air quality, the Circulator was also designed to provide speedy and easy access service to local residents and tourists during their stay in the downtown area. “At any given time, there is a tremendous amount of activity taking place downtown,” said Gilbert L. Holmes, IndyGo president and CEO. “The Blue Line will make it easier for everyone to experience all of the great attractions throughout downtown Indianapolis.” The bus will make nine stops throughout downtown Indianapolis Sunday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for 50 cents per ride. The stops include some of downtown’s civic, cultural,
and premiere attractions - from the Indianapolis Zoo to Victory Field. During the three-year process of pulling together the Blue Line, IndyGo partnered with 20 downtown organizations to ensute that the Blue Line would meet the needs of the passengers. “This has been a unique partnership,” Holmes said. “It is one of the first projects of its kind in the nation that ties public transportation, commerce and the arts. Because of the strong support of our project partners, the Blue Line is going to be a very successful venture.” For more information or to view a copy of the route visit the IndyGo Web site at wwW.indygo.net.
