Gospel Insider Music Awards returns on Feb. 15 in Hollywood

Electronic Urban Report Diane Blackmon does it again! The second annual Gospel Insider Music Awards now has a new home. The fu st lady of network radio, Diane “Duly Di" Blackmon has struck a deal with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to make that city the permanent home of the Hollywood Gospel Insider Music Awards. This exclusive awards ceremony will take place Feb. 15 at the Henry Fonda Theater, which recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation. Blackmon will host the awards cercmom with help from cohosts: Pastor Hc/.ekiah Walker, Evangelist Beverly Crawford, Dr. Ed Montgomery and The Christianaires.

In another coup, the awards ceremony will be followed by a sophisticated celebrity brunch on Feb. 1<> at the posh “Garden of Eden." * The second annual Hollywood Gospel Insider Music Award's invited guests include: Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, Dr. Bobby Jones, Dr. Ed Montgomery .Woody Rock, Keith “Wonderhoy" Johnson, Evangelist Beverly Crawford, Pastor Hezekiah Walker, Regi McClurkin, Dorinda Clark Cole, Juanita Wynn, U.S. Congresswoman Diane Watson, a host of “A-list" gospel celebrities and “Touched by An Angel" superstar entertainer and pastor, Della Reese, who will receive the “Mahalia Jackson Humanitarian of the

Year" Award. > Eighteen awards will be presented in categories ranging from “Male Gospel Artist of the Year,” to “Gospel CD of the Year,” to the American Bible Society’s “Gospel Book/Writer of the Year.” * * * * * Grammy-winning gospel diva CeCe Winans is going back to her roots. The Super Bowl has to get in on the good news blues, too. The Super Bowl Gospel Celebration, in association with the NFL Concert Series, will bring one of gospel music’s most celebrated tours to San Diego for Super Bowi Weekend; “The Hopeville Tour” featuring Grammy award winning, platinum-selling, crossover artists Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams will take place on Jan. 24 at the San Diego Sports Arena. Created by Mr. Franklin,

“Hopeville" has Broadway staging, short skits and interaction among the artists. Several current and former National Football League players who arc members of Chrstian Athletes United for Spiritual Empowerment (C.A.U.S.E) will make appearances during the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. In the past, NFL stars including Cris Carter, Kurt Warner, Curtis Martin, Michael Barrow’, Qadry Ismail, Deion Sanders and more have given their time to this event. ***** Dorinda Clark-Cole recorded her live video to accompany her self-titled album at the New Birth Cathedral in Lithonia, Ga. Labelmates Natalie Wilson and SOP were also featured on the video. The group performed an

hour-long set that featured Faith Evans on the song “Crown,” before Dorinda took to the stage. Dorinda performed nearly six songs, including the hit, “I’m Coming Out.” During that song, Dorinda went to change clothes and her niece, KeKe Sheard (daughter of Karen ClarkSheard), captivated the crowd with her vocal acrobatics. Super-producer Rodnie Jerkins turned around to Karen and asked, “What are y’all going to do with her?” Karen replied, “You want to do something with her?” Whoever does anything with KeKe will definitely be working someone that is destined to be a gospel superstar. Dorinda’s recording lasted until about 2 a.m. and the crowd stuck around until the very end.
