‘HELL IS TOO HOT’ But new spiritual/gospel production is a salve for the soul
By RICARDO HAZELL Electronic Urban Report Like it or not. we live in modem times. But just because things seem new does not mean they are improved. Things like good family entertainment, spiritually and accountability, for example, are fading quickly. But, if you were in Riverside, Calif., last month, then you had the opportunity to relax, laugh and reflect at “I Want to Go to Heaven Because Hell Is too Hot." Admittedly, when the play’s producer, director and scribe Jerome Benton first told us the theatrical
production's title, we laughed. Said Benton: “It gets a comical reaction every time I tell somebody. It was written by myself and my writing partner Ilunga Adell. The concept is about the danger of false freedom, abuse of freedom and about how people feel as though they can do what they want to and not have any recourse. Some folks feel like they have to go against what they really believe and experience a negative side before they realize this. The main character for this play has a little bit of all of us in her.” The lead role went to newcomer Canetta Gipson. Singer/actress
