THE INDIANAPOLIS RECORDER

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30,2002

Shattered but not shaken Continued from A3

*t its normal time. A highlight in this otherwise sad circumstance, was the way members of the community responded to the incident. Radio stations WTLC 106.7 and WHHH 96.3 reported on the crime throughout the day, as did various television news stations. The Recorder’s printing company, the Greenfield Daily Reporter and every other major print news organi- ‘ ration in Indianapolis have been It very supportive in offering office ^ space and use of equipment. ‘I Ameritech came out in an expedi- ;* tious manner to restore phone ser•j vice and Time Warner Cable was :• equally as accommodating. “The support from the community and media have been tremen- > dous. We are grateful for the help • • we’ve been offered. Our hope is the publicity will open some doors in \\ the community," said Mays. “Hope- ; * fully the pieces can be put together ; ' to cast a light on this group and put ;! them out of business for good.” : | IPD officials have also been ex- ; tremely helpful in their attempts to apprehend the suspects. In addition to traditional case studies and fingerprinting. Det. Perkins says that IPD “will try more high-tech things" to catch the suspects. Ironically, a day before the Recorder’s burglary. Auntie Marne’s Child Development Center was also burglarized less than three miles away. Det. Perkins and his staff feel that perpetrators in both incidents are “most likely the same individuals." Several calls have been made to the Recorder office offering helpful leads in this case. Area businesses have also called alleging that weeks after having new computers delivered, they too were stolen. The Recorder has already taken steps to upgrade security in the building and are offering a $5,000 award for information to identify and con- * vict suspects. If you have any information regarding the burglary, call IPD at (317) 327-38If. ~ * *
