Continued from Al Pit Bull co-CEO and founder Calvin Ross says that when creating Pit Bull, “we wanted to take the boredom out of your run-of-the-mill drink ... we wanted to create beverages that appealed to a particular generation and culture.” Ross said being a sponsor of the “largest sporting event in the world is an honor.” Although Pit Bull is the first Black sponsor of the league, other minorities have been team sponsors. Both FUBU clothing and 310 Motoring, an automobile accessory company were team sponsors. In the Indy 500 this year, rookie George Mack is also making history as the first AfricanAmerican driver on the first Afri-can-American race team in the Indy Racing League. The Indianapolis 500 claims to be the largest single-day sporting event in the world. The IRL has a worldwide presence with a reach of 850 million homes. Attendance has grown 51 percent between 2000 and 2001. There is a projected increase of another 63 percent for 2002.
