Libertarians nominate Rebecca Sink-Burris Rebecca Sink-Burris, 49, has been nominated by the Libertarian Party to be its candidate for secretary of state. A resident of Monroe County, she served on the Bloomington Fire Safety Commission 1999-2000, where she was chairwoman in 2000. She has run for U.S. Senate in 1998, the Indiana House of Representatives in 1996 and was a Libertarian candidate for the Monroe County Council in the 1980s. Voters can find new polling places Sarah M. Taylor, secretary of the Marion County Election Board and clerk of the Marion County Circuit Court, announced the list of polling location changes for the May 7 Primary Election. To help ensure that every citizen knows where to cast their vote, the Election Board offers the Personalized Voter Information Guide at www.IndyGov.org/vote and an Election Day only hotline at (317) 327-VOTE. Individuals who need assistance before election day can call 327-5100. Fiesta Indianapolis on May 5 Fiesta Indianapolis will observe Cinco de Mayo with a community celebration from 1 la.m.-6 p.m. on May 5 at the American Legion Mall and Veterans Memorial Plaza. Cinco de Mayo marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. During the Fiesta Indianapolis celebration, visitors can enjoy a variety of music including TexMex by the Cool Chilies and Mariachis. Local students will perform a play commemorating of the Battle of Puebla (in Spanish and English). Mexican folklore dances and storytelling will be woven within the evening program. Get in shape with IPD Everyone is invited to come out and start a summer fitness program with the “Walk With IPD.” This walk will take place May 6-May 31, Monday through Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. Kickoff on May 6 will be at 5 p.m. The first 150 people who arrive on that day will receive a gift from IPD. Participants are invited to either walk the 1.5 or 2.5 mile trail. The walks will take place at Washington Park. Call Regina at (317) 545-1204 for more information. Postal service will distribute food The National Association of Letter Carriers will be sponsoring a food drive in Indianapolis and its surrounding communities on Saturday, May 11. The letter carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service, will collect non-perish-able food items to help families in need in our community. Beginning Monday, May 6, letter carriers will begin distributing 500,000 sacks provided by Marsh supermarkets to postal customers to alert them of the food drive. Food donations can be placed in the sack and placed it at your mailbox on May 11. The letter carrier will take the food and it will be delivered to local food banks. Dinner and auction will benefit homeless The Homeless Initiative Program and the Landon Turner Legend's Fans will sponsor a dinner and auction to benefit the homeless of Indianapolis. This event will be May 9, with a silent auction' beginning at 5 p.m. and the program/dinner starting at 6:15 p.m. Admission is $100.
