Representatives of the Indiana Sports Corp., the Indianapojlis Convention and Visitors Assoiciation and from the Classic office lagree that this year should produce ithe same strong results, even while •the country is experiencing a slow ;down in tourism due to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. ; “The parade, band competitions land football game contribute to a Tall festival spirit and captures the imagination and exhilaration of the Icommunity,” said Bob Schultz, ^director of communications and public relations for the Indiana Convention and Visitors Associatton. - '“This is a huge event for the fcity. It is close to the spending level of a Final Four hosted in Indianapolis at a spending level of $27-$29 million,” Schultz said.
Schultz also added the cancellation of the Cincinnati Classic, and the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis due to the terrorist attacks may increase the number of Black footbal 1 game lovers to come to Indianapolis. “The cancellation of the other game makes this a first opportunity for the community to gather." he said. Tony Mason, executive director of the Coca-Cola Circle City Classic, said that this year is expected to do as well as others or even better. "We are projecting a sellout this year. We have had many strong years. This year should continue that course." With a $25,000 award from the Tourism Division of the Indiana Department of Commerce. Classic was able to increase marketing spending in the region to encourage attendance. "In light of the situation (cancellation of games due to Sept. 11), we beefed up marketing in Ohio, Illinois and other areas. We have always drawn well from those markets, but we wanted to send the message that they are welcome to the state and Indianapolis for Classic. Tickets to the game have been on sale a year in advance. However, just like the nail-biter action of the game, last minute ticket purchases can affect the numbers. Mason said walk-ups are a ma-
jor factor in the attendance levels. On average, walk-ups constitute 2,500-5,000 ' Mason continued that it is im-. portant that people recognize that the Classic is an annual event that benefits the Indianapolis community and the state each year. "We want the community to know that they are welcome to the game and the ancillary events. But, the game is so important. It must succeed, and will succeed by purchasing a ticket. Whether you plan to attend or not purchase a ticket. You can give it to a child or donate it." "As long as the game is successful, it will be a key first Saturday in Indianapolis," he said. John Goss, director of the Indiana Department of Tourism said that the Classic is the best of its type event in the Midwest. "Indiana should be very proud of the event and its impact; it is unsurpassed by other single sporting events in terms of direct spending." "Shoppers of this event spend far above the average of people in the state of Indiana. They are premium customers," Goss said. “The Classic office is pretty effective in getting the message out. We are happy to continue the partnership." he said. Goss also added, “If you haven't seen the battle of the bands you haven't lived. This is on of the greatest events of the year."

Mozel Sanders Homes is taken off of the buying market. 2000 — Residents notified of impending disconnection of waterservicesby Indianapolis Water Co. and gas services by Citizens Gas. 2001 — Parker makes an offer to the city to purchase his land occupying Interstate 70 and Keystone Avenue. He would then apply the money to rehabilitate Mozel Sanders Homes. 2001 — Franklin and board members file Chapter 11 Reorganization Bankruptcy. A lawsuit is pending against C.E.R.C. for not abiding by the purchase agreement.
