Cost is $10 for member; $15 for nonmembers. Events at Butler University Several events to observe Black History Month are planned at Butler University. Monday, Feb. 12: Reflections Film Series and Dialogue: “Furious Flower: A Video Anthology of African-American Poetry,” 1960-1995 Volume I: Elders (1998), features the works of Mari Evans, Pinkie Gordon Lane and Samuel W. Allen at 7 p.m. in Jordan Hall, Room 141. A postscreening discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Fran Quinn, poet-in-residence, and Dr. Terri Jett of the Butler University department of political science. Tuesday, Feb. 13: Butler Visiting Writers’ Series presents Reflections of Gwendolyn, a luncheon and literary tribute to the

life and legacy of Gwendolyn Brooks, featuring readings by Dr. Fran Quinn, poet-in-residence, and Butler faculty members at noon in the Writers’ Studio, Jordan Hall, Room 302. Wednesday, Feb. 14: Butler Visiting Writers’ Series presents noted fiction writer Jamaica Kincaid at 7:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall Johnson Room. The event is free. Follow the North Star Conner Prairie Museum in Fishers will present the indoor version of Follow the North Star, a theatrical production of escaping slavery using the Underground Railroad Feb. 9 and 10 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 11 at2:30p.m. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Children’s Museum Discover the past during the museum’s annual Black History Month celebration. With the theme of “Lesser Known African-American Heros and Sheros,” this year's activities will focus on African Americans who contributed to the abolitionist movement, legends of the past and outstanding women. Other events at the museum include: Feb. 10 and 11: noon to 4 p.m. Stories of a Pullman porter and his friends. Experience African-American life in the '30s, and ‘50s while taking a typical Sunday train ride to visit family, go to church or attend civil rights gatherings. All Aboard!
