proceeds with Celeste. Della, who knows all about the house in North Carolina, refuses to divulge any information about it. It holds a dark secret that she cannot bear to revisit In the meantime. Celeste learns that her husband has had an affair and wants out of the marriage. He files for divorce. She keeps this a secret as well. Her daughter Nikki has a secret too. She wants to leave her job as a manager in a hotel to go to culinary arts school. She wants to be a chef. Celeste thinks her daughter has lost her mind. Although the main characters are female, the male voices serve as counteipoints to their extreme personalities. It’s refreshing to read a story where the women are shot out and the men are decent and

intelligent.

Each of the women has an opportunity to spend their lives with men who love them and appreciate their strengths. Only Nikki is smart enough to recognize her fortune right off the bat. The others are carrying so much baggage they can’t see beyond their pain. Far From the Tree is no great

mystery story, but it is reminiscent of the kinds of secrets you find in any family’s history. And we are sure to see a bit of our own families in the telling of the story—maybe even a bit of ourselves. Each woman is fiercely fighting for her own spirit to find a place of peace and comfort. These three generations of women are more alike than they are different. They have tried to be true to themselves, intending no harm to anyone else. They find a common place of the heart when Ronnie and Celeste travel to Prosper looking to find a rundown shack of a house and find a grand well kept home waiting for someone to come home. Ronnie is hospitalized and Della is forced to return to Prosper, the place she vowed never to set foot in again. The story is finally told, old wrongs are set right and each woman finds love and peace of mind. Dorothy L Ferebee is a writer living in Philadelphia. You can contact her at [email protected]

audience favorite with his good looks, that career should not be too

difficult to achieve.

Another familiar face in the cast was that of Ricks, who was also the opening act The funnyman has appeared on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, Apollo Comedy Hour, and BET Comicview. His motion picture debut was in “Shaft,” starring Samuel L. Jackson. Last, but by no means least, the last cast member to be interviewed was McAllister, who believes she has a special anointing from God. Her hilarious portrayal of country bumpkin “Annie Ruth” knocked everyone out. Her credits include touring Spain with the Harlem Gospel Singers, and performing with gospel greats Kathy Meyers, Minister Bruce Parham, Twinkie Clark and Timothy Wright. “I really love and enjoy doing this play,” she said. “But most importantly, we all have the same

mission, to praise God.”

Produced by Marvin Webster, president of Marvelous Entertainment, and (as the program read) executive produced by Jesus Christ, “Can a Woman Make a Man Lose His Mind,” is phenomenal.
