“Parents should be taking their kids to the polls when they are small. Even when the child turns 18 they can insist that they get 1 their voter registration. Have ' political discussions around the' dinner table. Nurture the political process,” she said. Wellington said she has already heard many excuses people will use for not voting, 11 such as their dislike of the ■ ’ presidential candidates, despite 1 the opportunity to vote for other' political positions. ' , ' i Unsure of what the voter 1 turnout will be next week, " * Wellington offered a few words, of persuasive reasoning. ‘ “Just do it,” she said. “A lotdf things are going on now that call be changed through the political process. It’s the way America 1 ‘ was founded. If you don’t like"something, put yourself in the" ^ position to change it.” For more information on the' voting process call (317) 327- ’ y 5040. . '' VOTE Continued from A1 and re-elected in 1996. Asa ' - matter of fact, it was an unexpectedly heavy Black vote in ' 1998 that changed the political ' climate in Washington, saved 1 Clinton from impeachment conviction and chased from the : city, then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. So our vote does count. ‘ 1 If we are to control our own destiny, if we are to preserve the progress that we have made over past decades, if we are to end 1 profiling and police abuse, it is ' imperative that you and members of your family and your neigh-* : bors go to the polls on Tuesday/ Nov. 7. Excuses are unaccept-' ■ able. We must be reminded thait : the revolution is not over. And the Only thing worse than losirig ; a revolution is not showing up ' for it. i —The Black Press of America
