f The Indianapolis Artsgarden, the unique glass-domed structure rising above the busy Washington and Illinois streets intersections turned five this month, having established itself as an arts showcase and a city landmark. •The Artsgarden, which opened on 1 Sept. 5,1995, has been providing hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors with arts information, tickets, and more than 2,200 free arts events, including performances and exhibitions, since its opening day. LThe Arts Council of Indianapolis, owner and operator of the Artsgarden, marked the anniversary with a lunchtime festival of aits groups performing, providing aits information, ticket sales and more. The Fall Arts Festival was Tuesday. “During the past five years, the Artsgarden has helped the arts community increase its accessibility and awareness,” said Ramona Baker, executi ve director of the Arts Council. “The Artsgarden is a visible symbol of the importance of the arts in this community.” (The Artsgarden will continue the-, celebration throughout the month of September and showcase a variety of arts forms from dance and theater, to storytelling and visual arts. Some of the artists and arts organizations, who will be appearing include Edyvean Repertory Theatre, Anthenaeum Pops Orchestra, Freetown Village, Indianapolis Opera Ensemble and lllPUl sets enrollment record Enrollment has increased at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and students are taking a record number of credit hours, announced IUPUI Chancellor.Gerald Bepko. <The increases in numbers of students and credit hours occurred even as IUPUI deferred admissions to.654 new students, most of whom were referred to the Community College of Indiana, Bepko said. Enrollment figures show 26,118 students at the Indianapolis campus, a .2 percent increase over the 2$,057 students whoenrolledayear ago. Students this year have signed up to take an all time record 263,818 credit hours, compared to 262,140 hours in 1999. That is a .6 percent increase over 1999. Credit hours are a measure of enrollment used by colleges and universities.
