Christine Martin, Director of INDY PENDENCE Ms. Aisha Sabur-Jarvis and Ms. Goldie Scales invite women between the ages of 16-24 years old to consider a unique opportunity to receive free vocational and GED preparation skills training. You will have your choice of vocational occupations. You may also elect to receive your training in a residential or non-residential setting. Whatever your preference is you will he provided hooks; supplies, a professional clothing allowance, breakfast, lunch, childcare referral assistance (for non-residential program), medical, dental, and vision care and a nominal bi-weekly pay. Upon completion of training you will he provided an opportunity to obtain advanced training opportunities, attend college, or to begin a Job search. Job Corps is a wonderful and rewarding way to advance economically and educationally. High School graduates and students who have not passed the ISTEP testa are also welcome to apply. NCNW holds annual June brunch > The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) hosted its annual June brunch recently at the Omega Conference Center. Guest speaker was A’Lelia Bundles, the former deputy bureau chief of ABC New$ in Washington, and the great-great granddaughter of Madame C. J. Walker. Social workers combat school violence The National Association of Social Workers held a town meeting on school violence. The conference featured U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, D-Ind.; Dr. Virginia Caine, the Marion County Health Department director; Lynn Coleman, assistant to the mayor of South Bend; Dr. Bruce Colston, a Bloomhrgtdn consultant; Dr. Mary Guinn, Gary Schools superintendent; Dr. Gaylon Nettles, Indiana Department of Education; Jean Wilson, an Evansville social worker; and teen peer mediators from the Indianapolis Public Schools.
