Mystery off human remains continues
i ! It has been a little more than one yjtar since skeletal remains were f$und in a remote area on the Vfestside of Bloomington, but autQorities still continue to search for tHe man’s identity and cause of dfeath. ; According to Tamara Harty, ctime scene technician with the Bloomington Police Department, oil April 20, 1999, police were called to a wooded area between the railroad tracks and a row of automotive businesses in the 2500 bilock of West Third St. A Bloomington man found the rerriains as he was hunting mushrooms. j' Police, along with a team of archaeologists led by a forensic ahthropologist, carefully searched the site. Subsequent examination of the remains determined the man probably died in June of 1998. He was between 60 and 65-years-old, between 5-feet-5-inches and 5-feet-11-inches tall, had arthritis and had several healed frac-
tures which included his back, ribs, left wrist and left foot. He had a full set of lower teeth but the upper teeth were missing. He wore a colored shirt and tie, black slacks and tan Timberland shoes. Harty said one item found that could possibly lead to the man ’ s identity were the eyeglasses. The frames were made by Zimco Neptune, a brand normally prescribed to Medicaid patients. The lenses suggest the man may have had cataract surgery in one eye. Due to the state of the remains, a cause of death is still unknown. Please contact Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS or 1-800-92ALERT if you have any information that may assist in solving this case. Callers will be known only by a code number and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. In order to be eligible for a reward, information must be provided to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
