since 1979. “It’s tedious work,” she said referring to October days spent doing cuttings and planting seeds, maintaining a proper climate and the constant spraying for insects and weeds. “Although we’re only open to customers from April to September, there’s something to do everyday. “But, it’s worthwhile to see your flowers blooming. But a steady growth of new customers as well as the unfailing support of their loyal ones keeps the family and business going. “I like them because their plants are always healthy,” said Ruby Edwards, who has been picking up geraniums for her porch from the greenhouse for the past 40 years. “They’re also
very fine and honest people.” Malone said she want to maintain the business her father started and possibly expand by building another greenhouse to meet customer’s demand. “She’s doing a wonderful job raising all of those plants,” said her mother, Minnie Artis, 89. “She’s just like her father, she can stick anything in the dirt and it’ll grow. “As long as she wants to keep running the business, we will. I love flowers because they are pretty and they make me some money,” she added. “My mother and I are going to hold on to this business,” said Malone. “To be able to produce and reproduce such beautiful things is a wonderful thing. Plus it’s what my father wanted.”
