Rah Digga’s ‘Dirty Harriet’ on the way to gold
THE SCOOP

After several missed album re-
lease dates, some people were be-
ining to wonder out loud whether quality of Rah Digga’s new Dirty Harriet” was the reason it kept being put on hold. But when “Dirty Harriet” fi-
nally dropped, those same skeptics were the ones that started saying “See, tol’ you it was going to be hot." Most people first heard her on the Fugees’ cut “Cowboys” with her former group The Outsidaz, but Rah Digga's been diggin’ for longer than most female MCs that
are in the limelight today. “I take what I do very seriously,
and MCing is something that’s been deeply imbedded in my heart since elementary school, and I feel like I finally get to tell the world ‘Look, this is the girl you’ve been waiting for ever since ’96.’ ‘Cowboys,’
Fugees, every possible mix tape, underground concert, and around the way freestyle session that you can think of. It’s finally here and packaged in its 18 song form and I’m happy to be here,” she said. Upon hearing her album title’s name, “Dirty Harriet,” we automatically took it to be associated with Dirty Harry, the Clint Eastwood character with the real big gun that used to shoot at all the brothers. And why wouldn’t we think that, after all, guns and hiphop have an almost sickeningly symbiotic relationship these days. But this "fem-cee” told us otherwise. “Actually the name does throw people off, but it didn’t originate from Dirty Harry. I got it from Harriet Tubman, whom I relate to as far as being a rebel. I’m a female MC in the year 2000. I’m saying ‘Look, I don’t have to sell sex or I don’t have to sound this way to get my point across. I’m coming
through with a reinvented, old school form of hip-hop that’s full of jeep beats and grungy rhymin’ and in the process I’ve acquired a nice little cult following.’” Amid all of her grunge we must’nt overlook the simple fact that Rahdigga is very attractive. Busta Rhymes has always been known to love dah ladies, so the question that begs to be asked is... "Whassup wit’ you an’ Busta?” “No I'm not involved with Busta Rhymes, not involved with Busta. He has been on a full fledged campaign launch from the time I started recording my album right through its release. He just made it a point for me to be a part of any high profile function that was taking place. As long as he’s going around saying ‘And the winner is Rahdigga. ’ Everything you see him doing on TV is Rah Digga, Rah Digga, Rah Digga. I had to visually be in place so that people could put a face to this name that he’s run-
ning around screaming all the time.” She said, “He’s really gone out of his way to promote me and market me. I’m Flipmode Entertainment/Elektra. I’m the first solo artist from his label. Aside from him having faith and believing in my project, he also has business to take care of.” Rah Digga told us that she grew up in a middle class community in New Jersey so she doesn’t fit the mode of that troubled MC from a broken home, drug slinging, impoverished etc, etc, but that doesn ’ t mean she could not relate to the struggles of others and respect their points of view. God made dirt and dirt don’t hurt. "Dirty Harriet” is currently making a steady climb up the charts and is on its way to gold status. Newsbits A few years back Bad Boy Entertainment was the benchmark
for aspiring music moguls. These day’s they’re not making as much noise as they were in the past and critics say they’re in need of a golden child and the child that’s glittering right now is soul singer CARL THOMAS. But he says whimpers of him being the Bad Boy messiah are silly. “I think that’s ridiculous. I think people who say that don’t even listen to themselves. Nor do they leave room for error. That’s OK because that’s just another aspect of human nature. I think this is a genre of music that Bad Boy has never embarked on and it’s exciting for all involved.” Backstage at the Arista 25th anniversary special, former psychic friend DIONNE WARWICK was asked whetheror not her niece, WHITNEY HOUSTON, hasever approached her for some paranormal guidance and she told us the advice is not other worldly at all. Just plain ol’ horse sense.
“When she comes to me and asks ‘What’s going on, why are people talking about me?’ I say it’s because (the media) knows nothing else. That’s the way it is with (the media). If (they) don’t know anything (they) make it up." Speaking of “bad boys,” BOBBY BROWN is in a Florida jail after being arrested by U.S. customs officers in New Jersey over an outstanding warrant for violating his probation in a drunkdriving case. The warrant was put out last June after the former R&B crooner’s probation officer reported that cocaine showed up in a urine test, that Brown refused to take another test and that he didn’t return from a trip to Beverly Hills, Calif., on time.
