By ANTRACIA MERRILL Singer Kellie Williams is back on the music scene with her third album, “In the Myx” set to be released, June 20. This album takes a bold step and offers listeners a more urban groove. Chalk up the more urban edge to Tonex and 5’0 who produced the album under the banner of Mo’Soule Steppyn’ Productions. While the sound may be different for Kellie, the message is the same as all the songs center on rebirth and growth into the character of Christ. The first singles from the album will be “The Greatest” and “Fall Down 2000” — a remake of Tramaine Hawkins “Fall Down” which hit the charts in the early 1980s. Kellie started singing professionally when she was only 10. Shortly thereafter, she was featured on “March On,” an album that commemored the 25th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Warner Alliance Records’ “Sisters" CD. In 1993, she was named teen vocalist champion on Ed McMahon’s “Star

Search” and soon landed a recording contract. Her self-titled debut album was released in 1995. The next year she went on to open for CeCe Winans’ sold-out “Alone in His Presence” Tour. Indeed, God is working The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is jubilant over the success of its latest release, “God Is Working — Live” which was released last month. The album sold 27,000units its first week moving the project to No. I on the Christian SoundScan sales chart and a spot at No. 70 in the May 5th Billboard 200. But that isn’t the only good news for the choir. The choir won a Grammy this year as well as a Dove Award for their most recent release, “High and Lifted Up.” Not bad for the 300-voice choir with no formal musical training which is headed up by Carol Cymbala who could

not read sheet music when she arrived at the Brooklyn Tabernacle, yet has helped lead the choir to numerous Dove and Grammy Awards and nominations as well as sales of over 1.5 million albums. “God Is Working-Live” is the 19th release from the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and the first on the M2.0 Communications label, which was started this spring. Two previous albums “Only to Him” and “Live: We Come Rejoicing” will be re-released by M2.0 on

June 20. Briefly

Fred Hammond’s video “Purpose by Design,” which was recorded live in Las Vegas, will be released on a pay-per-view channel on July 15 prior to national retail release. The recording features Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir as backup choir and includes material from the “Purpose by Design,” album as well as previous songs. This week’s Scripture: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” Proverbs 17:22
