Pacers Miller, Rose go fourth with 40 The scoring show put on by Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose of the Indiana Pacers last Saturday - when each notched 40 points in the Pacers’ 108-91 triumph over Philadelphia in Game I of their Eastern Conference semifinal series - gained the duo entrance into an exclusive club, as they became the fourth pair of teammates in NBA history to score 40 or more points in the same playoff game. It was the first time the feat had been accomplished since May 5, 1995, when Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon scored 41 and 40 points, respectively, in a firstround game against Utah. Miller was 11-for-18 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line, while Rose was 16-for-23 from the floor and was perfect on five free-throw attempts. Saturday marked the first time in franchise playoff history that two Pacers teammates scored at least 30 points in a game. It was also Miller’s second consecutive game of scoring at least 40 points. He netted 41 in Indiana’s series-clinching 96-95 victory over Milwaukee May 4. “I don’t know if you can necessarily feel it coming on, but I have good use of my legs and I’m seeing the rim better,” Miller said. “But what’s helping is I’m taking it off the dribble, guys are setting good picks and I’m getting good looks. I always say in basketball, especially playoff basketball, you don’t want to be too greedy. Jalen was hot. He kept us afloat, especially in the third quarter when Philly was making a run. He’s carried us a lot of games. When we’re both clicking, that’s when we’re at our best and we’re hard to beat.” Said Rose, “I scored 40 in high school but not at the college level or this level. The important point is we won the game. Reggie hit some good shots and got good looks which resulted in good looks and good shots for me. This is a team

game.”

Through last year’s playoffs, since the NBA adopted a best-of-seven series format in its inaugural campaign in 1946-47, the team that won Game 1 has gone on to win the series 79 percent of the time (211 of 267 series). And because those four teams all own home-court advantage, they can also look to the fact such teams have won 199 of 267 series (.745). By the way, of those 267 series, 76 have gone the full seven games, and there have been 34 four-game
