prior to trial. Those are the kinds of strategic decisions that cause discrimination to end, at least at offending companies. The risks are great to take on entrenched institutional racism. Most people have to be pushed beyond the point of no return before even considering such a step. But, given the dangerto one’s livelihood, it is even more important that fighting discrimination is done effectively and decisively, with commensurate rewards. Justice delayed is justice denied. The signals of the 10-watt stations will extend 1 to 2 miles. The FCC says the service won’t interfere with the signals of current FM stations. But broadcasters say interference is likely and they have been lobbying Congress to put an end to the agency's plan. The organization wants more schools to have stations because they serve as teaching tools while preparing students for broadcasting careers, he said. Joining the Hoosier state in getting the stations are Alaska, California, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, the Mariana Islands, Maryland, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Utah. Promising to close the Internet gap known as the “digital divide,’’ BroadcastURBAN.com expects to start this month. Unlike other Web sites that just stream music, BroadcastURBAN.com and BroadcastAMERICA.com will commit up to $25 million to connect hundreds of R &B, jazz, hiphop, gospel and other urban format radio and TV stations from throughout the U.S. and the world. This capital will be used to provide up to 125 NABOB member stations with all the technology, licenses, fees, equipment and technical support to make the connection — : at no cost to the station. Eradio magazine recently estimated a station’s streaming costs to be as high as $200,000. In exchange, the stations will promote their new Web sites and BroadcastURBAN.com on the air. Hundreds of stations are expected to join the new network. INROADS Continued from Page D1 an edge,” she said, referring Jo the early exposure to the realities of the business world, networking opportunities and the knowledge and support she received from INROADS throughout her college
years.
After an internship at DukeWeeks in 1998, Seats found herself employed full-time by the company, which is a leading commercial real estate company in Indianapolis. The 24-year-old was recently promoted as the company’s marketing manager in Cincinnati and Cleveland. She has also joined the INROADS alumni chapter in Cincinnati. Just as substantial as the contributions INROADS has made to its 6,500 interns, is its presence in more than 950 corporations throughout the country. INROADS Indiana has a working relationship win nearly 40 companies in Indianapolis. “INROADS is a very rewarding program that benefits not only the sponsoring corporations and interns, but also enriches the professional development of supervisors and coworkers,” said Denise Dank, Duke-Weeks vice president of human resources and INROADS Indiana board member. Duke-Weeks has sponsored five interns since 1997 (Seats was the first) and plans on expanding its relationship with INROADS Indiana by sponsoring six more this summer. “As the war for talented employees continues to be waged in Indianapolis, INROADS Indiana’s ability to connect well-educated and motivated employees to companies like Duke-Weeks will certainly be sought after,” said Dank. While INROADS does provide students with pre-screening, training and career coaching, companies are required to provide summer work experience for interns, involve their staff in the intern’s development team and pay an annual scholarship fee as well as pay a competitive salary to the intern. “Companies have three basic choices in trying to win this battle,” said Flagg. “They can recruit experienced talent, import talent from other countries, or develop their own. As a representative of INROADS, I believe that it’s more cost effective and productive to do the latter.”
