Njew homework hotline With a simple toll-free phone call, Indianapolis area middle and high school students can now receive help to betterunderstand math and science through Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Homework Hotline. There are no fees associated with this educational program. The tollfree phone number is I-877-ASK-ROSE. Rose-Hulman students are available to answer calls from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday night throughout the school year. The Homework Hotline has been expanded to serve students of Central Indiana public and private schools through a $1 million grant from Lilly Endowment. The Homework Hotline received Ameritech’s Partnership In Education Award in 1994. It is also sponsored by the 3M Corp. and Electronic Data Systems. Indiana College Network class catalogs The Indiana College Network (ICN) has released its schedule of distance education classes for spring and summer 2000. Indiana colleges and universities are offering more than 1,000 courses in the new catalog. Nearly half will be taught through the Internet, allowing people to earn college credit from home. IPS teacher earns several national honors Arlington Woods Middle School special education teacher Harold House has received three national honors and one local honor. House was honored for his accomplishments by the IPS Board of School Commissioners. A 20-year veteran of teaching. House was one of 100 educators in the nation named to USA Today’s All-American Teacher Team. House was also named one of five National Learning Leaders by Phi Delta Kappa International, the National Education Association and National Home and School Institute. Most recently he was named a recipient of aTeacherCreativity Fellowship from Lilly Endowment. School 56 student places 1st in district spelling bee Chances are David Springer, a student at Francis W. Parker School 56. was “euphoric” over his win in the IPS District Spelling Bee at Crispus Attucks Middle School. “Euphoric” was the word that gave him the edge over his final opponent, Chris Hanson of Harshman Middle School. Finalists were Joseph Sinkifield, Farmington Middle School; Cheron Farley, Attucks Middle School; Heidi Seigman, School 55; Phillip Russell, School 88; Shannon Doty, Emma Donnan Middle School and Rose Pareedhi, School 20.
