112 trees planted on East 38th Street More than 75 volunteers from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Devington Community Development Corp., Baker A Daniels law firm, Greater St. Mark Baptist Church, Trotter Construction Co., Caldwell Custom Materials, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 86, the Indianapolis Firefighters Local No. 416, and other community organizations assisted In planting 112 trees last Saturday along the north side of East 38th Street from Arlington Avenue to Irvington Avenue. The first tree planted was in memory of Val Jean Dickinson, a former state representative and former executive director of the 10th Street YMCA. State Rep. Mfume son pleads guilty - in drug case WASHINGTON (AP) - A son of NAACP President Kweisi Mfume has pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and weapons charges^ admitting that he sold cocaine fo£ more than two years in Washing^ ton, D.C. ^ Ronald T. Gray, 29, was ary, rested last May at his home agents with the Drug Enforcement, Administration. He was indicted by a U.S. District Court grand jury, on three counts of distributing; powdered cocaine and thre$, charges of using the telephone ta arrange drug sales. He pleadeo guilty last Thursday. Gray came to the attention of the DEA last spring after another area man was caught with drug^, prosecutors said. That man offered to lead investigators to Gray and told them Gray had provided hith with cocaine on at least 70 occa^ sions, prosecutors said. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Crabb Jr. said DEA agents recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and drug paraphernalia after arresting Giay v He had sold powdered cocaine^ which then was converted intq crack cocaine for resale, Crabb
said.

2:15 a.m., Mansfield, 23, of the 3900 block of North Layman „ Street, was at the drive-through at Mr. Dan’s restaurant at 3900 E, Massachusetts. He had or- .. dered food and as the waitress ( brought his order to the window Mansfield was out of the car r running toward the front of the restaurant. Witnesses said" Mansfield banged on the front door of the restaurant and was screaming “Just take the car.” A *3;; man with a gun ran up to Mansfield, grabbed him and pulled him around to the side of'" 4 the building. Restaurant em- ; l ployees called police but by the ; r time they got there, the gunman, * as well as Mansfield and his car
were gone.
At 10 a.m. the following morning, an employee of a business located at 3200 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave., found Mansfield’s body lying in the grass next to the building. Mansfield had a hood on his head and had been shot. His car was later found in the 1300block of North Tuxedo Avenue. Witnesses were unable to provide a detailed description of the killer.
