FRIDAY, AUGUSTS, 1999 GALA Continued from C7 the city’s professional women offer the girls insights on being powerful and feminine on each of the camp’s workshops. • The Camp’s founder, Velora Anderson, said the goal of the camp is simply to provide the city ’ s youth an opportunity to prepare for their respective futures. This is done through beauty, interview training, health and other workshops; all of which are based on faith-centered values. • Last week, the camp rewarded its young ladies for over a month of hard work with a gala extravaganza, allowing the girls a chance to let their hair down. The event welcomed the ladies, their escorts and parents to the Artsgarden, giving the city a taste of its finest collection of future professionals. The scene downtown was that of a formal engagement, as young men and women, draped in tuxedos and formal gowns, flooded the Artsgarden in traditional Black style. The Camp used the event not only to showcase its girls talents, it also honored those that have invested in its offerings in one form or another. While the gala was the proverbial “bomb” for all downtown to enjoy, the event was just a prelude to Visions’ claim to fame-the annual hair and fashion show. Each year. Visions and its lovely ladies showcase their beauty and training in the annual event, capping off an entire summer of work. This year’s show will take place later this month at the Omega Center. Annually, Visions Summer Beauty Camp offers it’s unique brand of training to approximately 35 young ladies, ages 12 to 18. For additional information, call 9249862.
