RELIGION BRIEFS Walker-Smith to receive prestigious national honor The Rev. Dr. Angelique WalkerSmith, executive director of the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, has been chosen by Yale University Divinity School to receive its “Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service” on October 13. A graduate from Yale University Divinity School in 1983 with a master of divinity degree, WalkerSmith was one of only two Afn can-American women entering the class in 1980. Walker-Smith is scheduled to receive this honor during an awards ceremony and banquet at Yale University’s Annual Convocation (October 11-14) at Yale University New Haven, Conn. As an awardee of this prestigious award, Walker-Smith will preach during the convocation October 14, at the newly renovated Yale University

St. Gabriel changes mass schedule for race weekend The mass schedule at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St., will be changed to accommodate race fans the weekend of August 7th and 8th. There will be no masses on Saturday August 7th. Masses on Sunday will be at 7:30 a.m.., 9 a m. and 11 a.m. In the event of rain and the race is rescheduled for Sunday, there will be mass at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 7th and no mass on Sunday, August 8. Friday noon recital series Rhonda Sider, the organist at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, will perform at Christ Church Cathedral, Monument Circle, August 6 at 12:05 p.m. In addition, Alan Jordan, the organist of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, will perform at Christ Church Cathedral Monument Circle, August 13 at 12:05 p.m. For more information call 6364577.
New Revelation to host Women’s Day and trip The New Revelation Baptist Church will be having their annual Women’s Day on August 8. The morning speaker will be Sis. Crystal Jackson at 11:30 a.m. The evening speaker will be Sis. Josephine Strain at 4:30 p.m. In addition, the church will be taking a visit to Louisville, Ky., on a bus on August 15.
