ber 3rd to protect our right to work to protect our right to vote”, said Jackson. Rev. Jackson has been a strong supporter of Julia Carson, since her days in the Indiana General Assembly. “When Julia Carson fights for health care (for example) she’s fighting to heal the breach,” said Jackson. “Julia Carson is fighting for laws and priorities to make all Americans better.” Contrasting Carson with Republican Gary Hofmeister, Rev. Jackson explained that “Julia Carson’s approach is one of inclu$ion. She understands women’s rights. She knows about the tribu-i lations of battered women. She brings a certain sensitivity to the table. Unlike her opponent, Julia Carson knows how to and has built coalitions.” Accusing them of pandering for ratings and audience. Rev. Jackson was highly critical of the nation’s media for their preoccupation with the sexual scandals in Washington, to the exclusion of talking about real issues. “What President Clinton did was wrong and inappropriate”, remarked Jackson. “But Congress seems to be in a race with pomographer Larry Flynt and the media to see who can teach bottom first. To put that sewage on the Internet and on TV like they did was unnecessary and overkill. People ate disgusted with Congress’s and the media’s handling of the situation.” Besides criticizing the media for “being a conduit for entertainment and titillation, not information,” Rev. Jackson was highly critical of the Republican-led Congress. “This election is about whether we let the Newt Gingrich/Trent Lott forces seize control of the government and roll back the gains of the last thirty-five years,” Jackson declared. “Will Gingrich and Lott throw Clinton out of office and push their agenda? Or will our communities vote to continue progress towards health care reform, education, jobs and justice,” Jackson queried. He encouraged voters to elect Julia Carson so that on November 3rd, Gingrich can be seat bock home on the “Midnight Trata to Georgia.”
