ing “Accounting and Employment Ibx Issues,” “Handling Conflict Effectively” and “Important Legal Issues for Youth Programs.” Burton is not the only one who sees INRC’s importance to our city. This is an exciting time to be involved with neighborhoods in Indianapolis,” says Hope Malone, executive director for INRC. “Our city is richer because of its neighborhoods and their variety. We are increasingly seeing more people willing to get involved and take ownership of their neighborhoods.” INRC’s existence has also worked as a “common ground zone” to help bring our suburban areas and our inner city together. It gives the suburbs a chance to link up with Center Township,” says Burton. “A lot of people think INRC is available to Center Township alone. INRC has put forth a concentrated effort to include suburban townships and give them an opportunity to link with other community leaders.” INRC will continue its quest to bring the community together on Sat., Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its first annual NeighborFest ’98. This day-long event will be held at the INRC, 1802 N. Illinois St. and will allow neighbors throughout Marion County to meet old and new friends, celebrate unity and simply have fun. The festival will feature music, classic cars, storytellers, food, booths, CrimeWatch information and various activities for children. “We’re pleased about the opportunity to host NeighborFest ’98,” commented Malone. “We believe it's our role to bring people together and give them an opportunity to look over some of the retirees at their disposal. We want j>le to not only come out to 4 NeighborFest ’98 and have fun, we also want them to leave with some new thoughts and ideas ' for addressing neighborhood issues.” As if INRC isn’t busy enough, it also will begin its Neighborhood Empowerment Series on Oct. 13, 1998. The Empowerment Series gives neighborhood residents from throughout Indianapolis the opportunity to hear some of the country’s most provocative and outstanding community-oriented speakers. Topics will include school choice and creating banking alternatives for low and modest income residents. INRC has a host of activities that benefit neighbors throughout the city. INRC is funded in part by the Lilly Endowment, the Moriah Fund, the City of Indianapolis, Methodist Hospital, the Indianapolis Foundation and individual contributors.
