Vlng Rhamea For the past couple of months, Ving Rhames has been carrying around a box of Cuban cigars. Has he joined the new smoking craze? Not exactly, but he does admit he has taken quite a liking to them. Rhames is trying to get comfortable smoking a stogie and being fitted for some outrageous wigs to help him get into character for his upcoming role as the infamous boxing promoter Don King, which is currently filming in Los Angeles. The HBO project chronicles Don King’s life from a Cleveland street kid to becoming the notorious and colorful "king outside the ring.” Rhames has been doing his homework forthis project. First, he interviewed 45 people who know Don King, then he read various articles and books written about him and even
spent two weeks with the man himself. “I think with Don King, from what I’ve read, he’s so villified, I tend not to believe what the media says from a political point-of-view about things,” he says. Then again, I happen not to believe Don King on everything either. Sometimes Don acts like he's the victim, so I try to find a happy medium. I will say Don did give me a lot of insight on how his mind works and his perception of things and how sometimes he’s misperceived. I thought the media was too negative about him and I thought Don was too positive about himself so I think my performance will be somewhere in the middle." Rhames knows the film, which airs in November on HBO, will be controversial. Director, John Herztfeld wants to make
the film more realistic. He recently requested and got more money from HBO Pictures to update the film to include Mike Tyson’s ear-biting incident. Don King: Only in America also stars Vondie Curtis Hall, Darius McCrary, Bernie Mac, Lou Rawls and Loretta Devine. Ray J Ray J has more than proved he’s not riding on the coattails of his big sister Brandy’s success. Ray J’s first single "Let It Go,” from his debut CD Everything You Want made it into the R&B Top 20. Now the singer’s back with his second single, the title cut, which is steadily moving up the charts. In addition to a blossoming singing career, Ray J, is also making quite a name for himself on the silver screen.
"Everything You WanC is poised to be a big tune for Ray J. While the singer admits the song has the same feel as Brandy’s “Baby" he adds, people will definitely know it is his. “It’s me,’* Ray J says. “And when you see me perform the song it’s nothing like ‘Baby* it’s Ray J all the way.” While some may think Ray J got into entertainment because of Brandy, he says think again. Ray who is now 16, started out in commercials when he was 8-years-old. And in 1993, at age 12 he landed a role on Sinbad’s short lived Fox sitcom, Sinbad. Eventually Ray's acting skills took him to the silver screen. He co-starred in Once Upon A Time... When We Were Colored, Mars Attacks, and HBO’s The Enemy Within. His latest project is the Shaquille O’Neal flick
