A Message to the Community: As we celebrate the Tenth Annual Conference on Infusion of Culture and History Into the School curriculum, it is fitting and proper for the Indianapolis Public Schools Office of Multicultural Education to team with the Indianapolis Commission on the African American Male to present the Community of Heroes Celebration. The celebration will honor “grass roots n male volunteers who have tirelessly shared their time and energies with the school and who serve as outstanding role models for students to emulate. They do, indeed, deserve the pomp and circumstance they will receive at this distinguished event.
The Commission seeks to provide resources and strategies that address the psychological, social and educational needs of the African American male at an early age. This is accomplished, in large part, by identifying agencies, corporations and organizations who collaborate with the Commission for the achievement of these goals. They do so because they understand that the benefits to our community numerous when African American males grow up with healthy minds, bodies, and spirits.
We congratulate the Commission and its executive director, Mr. Lyman Rhodes on a job well done. I am honored to serve on the executive committee of an organization that serves our community with such distinction. ... ^ ) ^7 Pat Browne, Director IPS Office of Multicultural Education
