AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE VOLUNTEER RECIPIENTS
Bob McGhee Perry Township Bob McGhee is a Christian gentleman, husband, father, and employee of Allison Corporation, serves in his church community and our school district Bob's willingness to volunteer and serve sends a powerful message. Bob is a lead mentor for high school students at Southport High. As his schedule permits, he and a cadre of mentors he recruited, talk to young men. They encourage, inspire, and challenge these young men to succeed by defying the odds and stereotypes.
Gary Nickleson
Washington Township Mr. Nickleson is a parent at Crooked Creek that has made a difference for children. He has volunteered to coach the youth football program and the youth basketball program for the children. He has a fourth grade child that participates,
yet he has personal knowledge of all the
children that play for him. He related stories about each child at a football banquet that demonstrated that he cared about each of them and knew what they contributed to their team. Best of all, Mr. Nickleson is a firm believer that "school comes first" He has begun teaching the students that their grades and attitude in school are what the true reason is to play sports. He teaches teamwork and sportsmanship as well to all of his team members. Mr. Gary Nickleson is a great role model to youth and is a deserving recipient of a
volunteer award.
Bernard "Bernie" Render Lawrence Township
Berate is a distinguished Alum and graduate of Indiana State University. He has Learned to thrive on pressure as Alumni President of Indiana State. Bernie is a highly decorated U.S. Army Career Officer. He was awarded Omega Man of the Year, and Citizen of the Year plaques by Zeta Phi Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Paternity, Inc. Bernie was also awarded a plaque for forty years of devotion and service to the fateraity during which time he exemplified the four cardinal principles • manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Bernie was a honored nominee of the 1988 Alumni of Year Program, sponsored by the Council for Advancementand Support of education. The distinguished Kiwanis Lt. Governor of his class of Lt. Governor’s '989-1990 and a recipient of the nited Way of Central Indiana Agency Relations Division plaque for (10) years of outstanding service are just some of a long list of accomplishments. Bernie’s volunteer activities include: A Consummate community volunteer and leader whose major emphasis has been the education and safety of head starters, middle school students, and high school students in Marion County and Noblesvllle. Judge Smith Warran Township
Judge Smith has been a patron and
volunteer in our school district for the past eight years. During this time he has exhibited the kind of character and behavior which confirms that he is not only a moral exemplar but also an outstanding role model as to what a parent should be. He has served as a parent volunteer on many school district committees both at the building and district level. Included among his activities at the district level has been his active participation on the Minority Hiring Task Force and the Teacher of
the rear Selection Committee. Jui has also served as a member of
school district’s Human Relation Advisory Council for the past five years. He is currently the Vice- Moderator of the Council. Judge possesses a number of unique qualities. The school district sees these qualities in the following manor: He has strong educational background having earned both a Bachelors Degree in Math as well as a Masters Degree in Computer Science.
