Martin Lawrenca/Nothing To Lose Martin Lawrence has weathered quite a few personal and professional storms over the past year and now he says he’s doing just fine. He’s ready to go on with his life and career. With his TV days behind him, Lawrence is concentrating on his new film project, Nothing To

Lose.

Lawrence, plays T. Paul, a fast-talking carjacker, who picks the wrong guy to rob when he tries to hold-up ad executive Nick Beam, played by Academy Award nominee Tim Robbins. You see, Beam is having a really bad day. He caught his wife in a compromising position with

opposites, an unlikely friendship unfolds, just like it did off screen between Robbins and Lawrence. Robbins believes that is what makes the comedy work so well. “I think the best chemistry actually happens when two people are different and whether these two people can come from the point of absolute hatred to friendship,” says Robbins. Lawrence stays true to his comedic form with his over-the-top antics on-screen. But behind the scenes, Lawrence’s personal life over the past year has been nothing to laugh about. In fact, Lawrence missed a couple of days on the set of Nothing To Lose because he had been hospitalized for shouting obscenities to passing motorists. Filming was delayed for a few days while Lawrence

received treatment, reportingly for dehydration and exhaustion. Though the rest of the shooting went on without a hitch, a few months later, Lawrence was charged with carrying a loaded weapon in his luggage as he was boarding a plane from Burbank, Calif. By year’s end, his wife. Patricia Southall, left him and took their daughter Jasmine with her. In an affidavit Southall described Lawrence as a violent drug abuser who “exhibits irrational and abusive behavior.” By January another

woman walked out of his life, his Martin co-star Tisha Campbell left the show and sued Lawrence fOr sexual harassment. They eventually settled their dispute outside of court and Campbell returned to the set to shoot the final episodes of their series finale, with strict guidelines that she was not to be in any scenes with Lawrence. Neither party will comment on the specifics. However, Lawrence did say this: “Well I can’t really comment too much on it but I’m going to miss my sitcom. It was my baby. It was five years of hard work. We had a good time I thought. It might not have ended exactly the way I would have liked but it taught me a lot. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing because I know I did nothing wrong.”
