to Indianapolis. ‘it’s the people that make the city great,” he said. He seems satisfied to co-work-ers, also. “Buck Wilde loves Indianapolis and hopes to proudly call it home,” Adams said. Since his arrival, Wilde has received a warm reception from the city. He feels Indianapolis is a great city and WTLC is a great radio station for which to work. “The city is excepting change quite well,” Wilde said of listeners’ reactions. “Not only excepting, but more people are speaking out. They’re becoming more involved in the ‘Buck Wilde Show.’ “WTLC is a station people turn to for information. It is good to be at a station people respect and listen to.” Wilde expressed concern about the community’s perception of his style, alluding to some listeners wondering whether he is Black or white. He finds the issue funny because he wants to know what a Black person sounds like. He also

wonders if the community would find it unusual for a Black radio station to hire a white DJ. “It shouldn’t matter, but it’s funny how people think about Black and white,” Wilde said. “It shouldn’t be a question because it doesn’t matter.” Wilde feels a good DJ is one who brings something to radio that people can relate to and enjoy, something that isn’t typically a part of radio. He believes his brain teasers grab the attention of his listeners. “The teasers work better here because the people in Indy seem to be a little smarter and like challenge,” Wilde said. . Wilde is thankful for the opportunity to join WTLC. His future goals — including working within our community, especially in initiatives which help young children — reaffirm his commitment to a long-term relationship with Indianapolis. “I plan to be here for a while,” Wilde said.

merous behavioral changes precipitated by the psychological residue of the war, there were plenty of liquor stores and drug lords waiting to serve them. And not enough economic opportunity to fill a thimble. If you have been disturbed by this brief historical account, then you will have been thoroughly depressed, although enlightened and entertained, by the Hughes Brothers’ motion picture “Dead Presidents.” Tate comes out The film follows a Bronx teenager named Anthony (Larenz Tate) through the rigors of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Anthony grows up a product of two well-intentioned parents who want the best for their son. But, Anthony sees too much too soon in a life riddled with fast girls, illegal lottery numbers-runners, and smoky pool halls filled with shady characters who drive getaway cars. All the men are quick-tempered, out of control. Anthony gets a horrible start, although some of it is by his own choosing. He impregnates a school mate, Juanita (Rose Jackson) beforejoining the Marines and fighting for his country. He and his Marine Corps buddies come back emotionally tainted by the horrors of war. The only

thing they know how to do effectively is engage in warfare. So they do — against authorities in an attempt to steal a federal transport of money. Tate’s lead portrayal is astounding. How someone so young can play a man so jaded and ruined by life defies all explanations, except talent and some serious research. Tate’s role chronicles the demise of the Black man during a short 10- to 15-year aperture of opportunity for African-American social and economic progress. Remember, the Reagan revolution kicks in as the 1970s and its (borderline) tolerance of affirmative action kicks off. What is so realistic about “Dead” is so disturbing. Tate’s Anthony ultimately feels his country betrays him, perhaps rightly so. Yet he is a prisoner of his own decisions: choosing the Marines over college at the height of the war, not having the strength to live a safer life, and being sexually irresponsible. As the film’s subtitle suggests, “The only color that counts is green.” Anthony buys that and pays a price more precious than money. “Dead Presidents” is entertaining and somewhat depressing. This R-rated film depicts adult situations and has several graphic portrayals of violence.
