nr Immy Doss, who has a 7.6 GPA, plans to major ^ I in chemistry or biology at Purdue University. In addition to being National Honor Society vice president, a teen counselor and a peer tutor, Jimmy has been involved in four sports — football, cross country, wrestling and track. Honors include the Noah Ellis Scholarship, Holliday Scholarship, Indiana Hoosier Scholarship, Harold L. Harmeson Scholarship and Purdue University's Carl Schmid Scholarship.

TklW Ichelle Flanagan received the University of I wl Southern Indiana Presidential Scholarship and plans to major jn science. Active in sports, she is co-captain of the tennis team, a member of the basketball team, and is also*a cheerleader. Michelle,, who has a 7.9 GPA, received the Phi Beta Kappa Award, National Science Merit Award and the U S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award, among many others.

TT ayna Llford is already enlisted in the U.S. Air 0 I Force. She has received awards in science, math, English, social studies, Latin and drama. She also studied as an exchange student in Denmark. While at Howe, she was president of both Thespians and the National Honor Society, and vice president of the Student Council. Jayna, who has a 7.9 GPA, received the Army Reserve Medal and Presidential Academic Fitness Award.

V^ashlsh Patel received an academic scholarship 1*^10 Wabash College, where he will major in science this fall. In addition to having an 8.0' GPA, Pashish received the Hoosier Scholar Award, the Tech Alumni Association Scholarship and the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. While a student at Tech, Pashish was active in the French Club, varsity tennis, National Honor Society, Explorers youth group and the Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis..

Toy Rowland plans to major in international 0 I business and French at Ambassador College (Big Sandy, Texes). Joy was president of the French Club as well as a member of the NationalHonor Society, Brain Game team, varsity tennis team and golf team. She was awarded the Hoosier Scholar Award, Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship Award and was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist.

arl Torke, president of the BRHS National Honor 1^ Society, will attend Indiana University as a Wells ■A.Scholar, an award that pays for all his expenses plus a stipend. He has an 8.0 GPA, was named an Academic All-Star, and is one of 2,000 seniors in the nation who received the National Merit Scholarship. Some of his other honors are the Phi Beta Kappa Excellence Award and Hoosier Scholar Award.

This year, 238 IPS students were awarded $2,046,000 in scholarships to institutions such as Indiana, DePauw and Purdue universities IPS DanM Webster School 46 was recognized by President George Bush as the 747th Daily Point of Light for the Nation. This honor celebrates the positive activities taking place between the school and its Partner in Education, Kroger. The 35-member IPS Araenal Technical High School Constitution Team took third place in the National Bicentennial Competition on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Fine Arts Team of IPS Thomas Cerr Howe High School, comprised of students Scott Greene, JIH Lepper, Chris Retz and Ana Roof, won the statewide Class 1 Division of the Academic Super Bowl IPS Arsenal Technical High School senior Tysha Hardy was selected one of the 25 Most Promising High School Students in the Nation by Ebony magazine Her picture and biography are in the magazine s May issue. IPS Northwest High School seniors Conneeee Warren and Milton Bradberry were selected National Merit Achievement Winners For the second year in a row, sixth-grader Kevin Smith of IPS Wsehlngton Irving School 14 received a Presidential Award for Academic Fitness Kevin was eligible for the award because he held an overall B-plus average for each year of elementary school and scored at or above the 80th percentile on standardized achievement testing. As part of the National Red Ribbon Campaign, students at IPS Robert Lee Frost School 106 held a 'Just Say No' to Drugs* rally Their efforts won them the State Red Ribbon Award for Best Rally from the Indiana Federation of Communities for Drug-Free Youth “IPS Student Magazine,” a television program written, produced and directed by students, took first place in the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters' annual Statewide Radio and Television Competition.
