Circle City sell out was sight to see
Waslcver glad to see the attendance of the Circle City Classic football game a sellout; and with all of those folk at the Hoosier Dome there were very few negative incidents. Can you imagine more than 62,000 Macks in one setting. 1 think it was just marvelous, and hope to see it happen again. I am sorry that I was under the weather and unable to attend all of the festivities during the weekend, but I will make up forit in the coming weeks. Betcha. Last week I made abig mistake and gave you the wrong name of the young man who singlehanded registered more than 1,000 voters in the city. His name is Bill Benson and not die name I mentioned last week. This young man is employed by the Center Township Assessor's Office and I truly regret that error. Last week I told you I would let you know my choices for the state

ticket, and why I think they would win. I think Mayor Hudnut will win for secretary of state because of his name recognition and because Democratic nominee Joe Hogsett did not meet the im-
portant black voters as he should have. I think Mayor Hudnut will get at least 20 percent of the black vote in Marion County, and that will help get him across. I must admit that Hogsett will give him a good race, and it will not be a runaway by a long shot For the office of state treasurer, it looks as though Marjorie O’Loughlin will remain in that office because of the lack of money raised by her Democratic opponent, and also her popularity

Mother accidentally smothers baby An Indianapolis woman accidentally smothered her infant while they slept in a bed together. According to police, they were called to an apartment in the 3100 block of E. 39th St after Carla L. Satterfield, 20, reported that her baby was not breathing. Satterfield and a friend she was staying with went to sleep with the infant girl between them in the bed. The friend later awoke and found the mother had rolled over the infant and the infant was bleeding from the nose. The infant was dead on arrival at Methodist Hospital. No charges were filed against Satterfield. Man mistakenly shot by father A22-year-old Indianapolis man was accidentally shot by his fatherearly Sunday morning as he attempted to enter his parents locked house. Police said Glenn S. Norwood, had just moved back into his parents residence in the 3600 block of N. Central Ave. and had returned home at 5 a.m. after attending events surrounding Circle City Cassic. Money for Japanese-Americans On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh presented a formal U.S. apology to nine elderly Japanese-Ameri-cans who were forcibly interned in concentration camps during World War II. Thornburgh handed out $20,000 redress payments, tire first of which that will eventually reach 65,000 Japanese-Americans and told the recipients that the U.S. government “had failed them.” The payments are expected to be completed by the 1993 fiscal year and are expected to exceed $1.5 billion. No tax breakthrough at Summit President Bush was initially receptive to higher income taxes for the rich but dismissed the proposal after meeting with 17 senior Republican senators this week. Bush's reversal appeared to quell any chances for a compromise in the yew-long fiscal stalemate between Democrats and Republicans in approving a $500 billion deficit reduction package. The Senate was pressed to slash Social Security payroll taxes and repeal the income limits on beneficiaries. Congress and the Bush Administration have until Oct. 19 to reach a deficit reduction package. Mayor asked to put teeth in compliant board Community leaders want Mayor William Hudnut to sanction the Citizen Police Complaint Board to investigate policeaction shootings. On Monday. Republican City-County Council member Carlton Curry introduced a proposal that would forbid the complaint board from reviewing police shootings. Curry’s proposal states die county grand jury, not the civilian review board, should investigate police shootings.
among state workers. For the office of state auditor, Ann Devore should remain because of die good job she has draw in die past. Hername recognition far outshines that of the the
Democratic candidates. The next one is real tough for me to call, because as I mentioned last week, you have two fine young men ronning for the office of clerk of dw courts, being in the persons of Reputdican Dan Heiser and Democrat Dwayne Brown. As 1 see it sitting from the desk, and what I have been able to get from the in-crowd, I have to say this one will be an upset and I will pick Dwayne Brown to win because of the heavy vote that will

be coming from Lake and Marion County. Enough to gethim across. A narrow victory. Next week I will be talking about dw winners in the Center Township races. I'll say who will win and who wiUlose,so be watching for this one. The following week the county races will be my focus. In the meantime, here is a thought for you; Faith without woik is presumptuous; faith with
work is precious. Think. Most Democrats are very enthusiastic about the chances of former state Sen. Louis Mahem’s chances of being the next mayor of Indianapolis. It seems certain the prosecutor of Marion County, Stephen Goldsmith, will be the choice of the Republicans. Right now, I would call it a pretty good race that might arise. I will be talking to a lot of people in the
next few months, and getting their views and whatnots about whom they would prefer to run the city. Let”s remember it has been a number of years since dw Democrats were able to command any part of the city, and it just might be the time for a change—even with the Richard Lugar instilled Unigov. It has hampered the Democrats for years, so let’s just take a look and see what happens.
