Colored Women's Club plans Foodless Banquet The Central District of the Indiana State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs met in Indianapolis April 25 at the Federation’s club home. Comprised of federated clubs from Lafayette and Indianapolis, the Central District was formed in 1940 by state president Lena Harris. Other districts of the Indiana State Federation formed at that time were North Star, Eastern, and Southern. The Indiana State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs was organized in 1904 by Lillian Fox Thomas. At the recent annual meeting of the Central District, plans were made for a fund raising “Foodless Banquet.” A recommendation to merge the Central and Eastern Districts will be submitted to the state federation for consideration. The club ladies engaged in a lengthy discussion concerning the racist incidents that have occurred lately at Purdue University. President of the Central District, Christine Williams, a member of the Lafayette Mary L Club, delivered a message on the theme, “Reaching Out With Love.” Response was given by state federation president, Willie Mae Durr who is a member of the Hammond Laura A. Passmore Guild. The April 1988 Central District meeting will be held in Lafayette pending the outcome of the recommendation to merge the Central and Eastern Districts.
