The Hi-part series from Na tional PuWv Battle is hosted by singer and songwriter Oscar Brown Jr., and can be heard every Saturday on NPR mem her station WLAN at A a.m.. beginning January V. “Because musk created and marketed by Blacks so dominates the record iflg industry today. most people are unaware of the Black musicians' intense struggles for popular acceptance/' says exe cutive producer Charles Hob son. “These programs docu meot thek struggles, thek frustration, thek eventual sue cess - and they feature some pretty good musk, too.” “Early Jazz.” kicks off Feb ruary by examtnmg the pre jazz musk known popularly as “illegitimate.” The program explores the evolution of this musk into Ragtime and Swing , and its eventwd popular accep tance as art.
