Missionary troupe cheers nursing homes residents

T ime's are hard, but there is always some to share with the sometimes forgotten this time of the year. This was a motivating force with the Senior Missionary Society of Shiloh Baptist Church. 380hForest Manor, as' they made their nursing home rounds this month, trying their best to perk up residents with Yultide offerings. Stops this year so far have been Sarah’s Nursing Home, with 50 residents; Mount Zion Geriatric Center, with 104 residents, and The Marion County Home, with 93 occupants.

At each, the church pastor, Rev. C.V. Jetter, gave an inspirational talk in keeping with the season. The ladies busied themselves serving ice cream and cake. Sister Samantha Spears, a devoted missionary, made lap covers for patients confined to wheel chairs as Christmas gifts. There were more uplifting talks by Deacons Riley Porter and Charles Mitchell in addition to caroling and scripture readings. Times without number, the appreciative residents were heard saying “We're so very glad." “Thanks for stopping by,” “God bless you." Sister Ida Mae Miller was in charge of purchasing Christmas presents. Others on the program were Brother and Sister Forrest Stigger, Sister Arietta Whitfield, Sister Bertha Robinson, Sister Janet Davis. Sister Nora Wright, Sister Trudie Williams, Sister Emma Clanton, Sister Lovie Jones, Sister Willa Mae Johnson, Sister Georgia McClain and Sister Lee Hiawatha. Missionary Society president is Mrs. Amelia Woolfolk.
