YA Carter read about himself in an obituary ten years ago ami his file has not been the same since. In November 1970, Carter, was a starting middle hoebarker on the Marshal Cimersdy team in Huntington, WVst Virginia. He wa* scheduled to he on a Southern Airways DC9 returning with his teammates, coaching staff and fans from a game in North Caroboa. The plane crashed, killing all 75 persons aboard. Carter, after seeing bis name mistakenly listed as a fatality had to goon national television and radio to prove be was still alive. Ifr was m Wichita Fa#*, Texas for hi* father's funeral. .Several days before the trip, his mother had called to fc# of his father's heart attack and death. And she said, "Don't get on that plane next Saturday. It's going to crash," f'after remembers. "At that point I thought, Tfow would you knowT But now f realize it was (old's message to me. First He communicated that to my mother to warn me and then He called my father in death to make doubly sure 1 wouldn't be on that plane," Carter says. After his fathers funeral he* mother pleaded with him nrt to go hack, so he stayed a few days.
