Mr. J. C. Penn, a life time friend of Mrs. Donaldson’s, and retired sohoo' principal, reflected on her many contributions in a lengthy and distinguished education career, while praising her unique art-

istic expressions.

Mrs. Donaldson was born

March 21, 1899 in Nashville, Tenn. She moved to Indianapolis as an infant—years later graduating from Frederick Douglass Elementry School. In

High School, and graduated from Butler University in 1920.

Ms. Thomas new Society volunteer Recorder columnist Willa Thomas has been appointed a volunteer worker for the American Bible Society, one of the world's largest distributors of the Bible and related material. The company prints the "good book" in some 1800 worldwide languages, including scriptures for the visually handicapped and braille for the blind. Its stock also has films and filmstrips for churches' use. Miss Thomas says in her new position she will be searching for churches interested in starting a monthly Bible club for youngsters and trying to have Bible displays at various conventions. Since 1810, the aim of the American Bible Society has been to place at least a portion of Holy Scripture in the hands of anyone interested. In doing so, cost has never been a consideration. Scrip lures are given cheerfully to those w ho cannot afford to pay anything.

Two important historic events will be remembered when The Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) holds their 105th annual state convention September 25-27 in Marion at College Wesleyan

Church.

The ladies will take time to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the election of Frances Willard as national WCTU president in Indianapolis in October, 1879, and the 50th anniversary of the placing of the Frances Willard placque in the State House in Indianapolis in September, 1929. Mrs. James Shelley of New Castle, marking the end of her first year as state president, will preside throughout the convention, expected to attract many members from Marion County. Other state officers participating in the convention program will be Mrs. Reuben Smith of Delphi, vice president who will act as platform chair man: Mr>. H. Lowell Johnson of Parker City, promotion

director.

Registration will convention at 12 September 25, followed by the Pre-Convention School from 2-3 p.m. in charge of Parris of Warren, director of Projection Methods. Annual awards will be made to YTC groups from over the state.
