who played during the 60s, only Whitley personally experienced the feeling of advancing in what many consider one of the most difficult to win state high school tournaments in the country. The Tigers made it to the final eight in 1070 (Whitley's senior year), bowing out to Muncie Central — now a record seven time state champ. Ironically, tie Tigers have not made a Final Four trip since their unprecedented third crown for Indianapolis in 1959. That's exactly what bothers ex players, students and dire fans, who all recall those stormy Tiger hey days, the bon fires and unity, which would exemplify the pride their three crowns seeminglv bestowed on this city. The alumni craves the chance for present coach Larry Humes to have the talent to work with compared to the likes of an Oscar Robertson. Granted, that will be hard to find. But actually, the dynasty began a little before Oscar's time. It started with players like Willie Gardner (considered by someihe best to ever wear a Tiger uniform). There was.also Hallie Bryant, Bennie Cook, Bob Jewell. John Davis, and Oscar's brother. Bailev. Back in 1951, this Attucks team treked through the sectional in a way that baffled the most astute hardwood observ er. They were still elminated in the State Finals by an Evans ville Reitz team. In 1952. the Tigers compiled a near flawless 19 1 record, losing, however, to Tech at the w rong time in the sectionals. In 1953. Bailey Robertson and Bryant's senior seasons, it was Crowe's first time to lose as a head coach more than two .games in a season.
And when Attuck ran into the losing end of a game with Shelby ville, (46 44). newspaper articles immediately appeared about the eminent downfall of Attucks. Little did writers realize that in lieu of Bailey Robertson, Bryant and Cleveland Harper, waiting in the shawdows would emerge the skillful talents of Sheddrick Mitchell. Winford O'Neal and Oscar Robertson. At the same time (and in seasons shortly after) there would further be star-ladden players like Willie Merriweath er, Laverne Benson, Norman Crowe, Bill Hampton. Bill Scott. Bill Brown, A1 Maxey. Jerry Hazlewood, Larry Mein tyre and Edgar Searcy.

For those who'll never forget those “glory days," the curiosi ty of the present shape of Attucks hardwood fortunes remains a task of rejuvenation. Who knows, there just may be a return to those Tiger "glory days."

The song written by one of the artists Janice Johnson, was inspired by an television inter viewer who asked, “how- can you ever follow “Boogie Oogie Oogie?" Janice humbly replied, "I don’t know, but whatever we do, we’re going to "do it good." The album is a well-balanced fusion of up tempo and infec lions rhythms intermingled with melodic mid-tempo jazz flavored tunes, and soft lilting ballads. Guitarists Janice John son. and Hazel Payne, are electric in their guitar solos and scintillating on the dual lead vocal harmonies. Donald John son, provides potent and driving rhythmic pulse on drums and percussion. Perry Kibble, shows dexterity and finesse on keyboards both also display their talents as "back up vocal ists." String arrangements by Wade Marcus, are delectable and subtle, but provide counti nuity and fullness throughout the set...Do you dig!....Later, until next week for the newmusical happenings.
