Church Events ly WILU THOflAS This week’s meditation is “Needed: More Evidence.” Check out the scriptures at Philippians 1:27-30. Speaking to people about the Lord is important, but another kind of witness is equally necessary. It’s the witness of our conduct! Speaking to people about the Lord is important, but another kind of witness is equally Nlcossary. It’s the witness of ou r condOct! Dr. Daniel Steele says, “All jurists will tell you that one bit of authentic evidence is worth more than 10,000 words of sophistical, professional pleading. It is far more important than a clever advocate. “A testimony can go to the jury without argument; but it will not do to send the argument without the testimony. Yet I fear the modern Christian church hgg' been committing this blunder when through eloquent preachers she presents to the world the argument-without the evid - ence! Jesus Christ, on trial before the jury of an unbelieving world, has had too many lawyers and too few witness-

es!”

Some years ago a believer was walking past a tavern in the city of Philadelphia. Looking in, he saw a professing Christian drinking and gambling. He took a pencil and wrote a message on a slip of paper. Seeing a boy standing near the door, he beckoned to him, gave him a coin, and said, “Take this, my boy. I want you to do something for me. See that man over there playing cards? Give him this note.” The young fellow agreed to do it. When the back slidden believer opened the note, he blushed, for it read, “Ye are my witnesses!” Immediately he got up and left the tavern. That pointed rebuke was used by the Holy Spirit to bring conviction to his heart. He realized he had not been true to Christ. Needed immediately for a charitable cause are 50 pair of no longer used glasses - regular and sun - and 50 watches, both ladies and men. Drop them off for mme at The Recorder no later than December 14.
