Mamas CONTINUED FROM PAGE Ilf blackness," Miss King was reported by Soul Newsmagazine’s Walter Burrell as saying when pressed for comment on her not appearing in this season’s episodes of the situa-tion-comeoy. Spokesmen for TOY Productions, which produces ‘SVhat’s Happening!!!!,” say Miss King, who plays Mrs. Thomas, will not return as “the producers couldn’t work out a deal with Mabel because she had other commitments." Bernie Ornstein, one of the show’s two producers, said Miss King was unable to reach a financial arrangement for the coming season, although he “would love to have her on the show.” Ornstein told Burrell, when asked if there were differehces over treatment of the black image in the scripts, he said “She’s too late for that. Esther Kolle already did that number.. Mabel will have to come up with a different story.” “On the last script,” Miss King told Burrell, ,f they had Roger (Ernest Thomas) going out and getting an apartment behind his mother’s back, which blew the image of trust which had existed between the mother and two kids.” Miss King will not be written out of the show, TOY spokesmen say. They say that while Roger and Rerun (Fred Berry) move into an apartment, and waitress Shirley (Shirley Hemphill) moves into Roger’s room at home, “you won’t see her (the mother), but the audience will not know she’s not there.”
