A communique sounding “peace” and “friendship" between athletes and residents of two major North American metropolis’ is less than 48 hours away! More than 1,500 athletes representing Indianapolis and Scarborough, Ontario, place earnest hours of summer preparations behind this week, converging in competition for the sixth annual Peace Games. The international competition of 15 sporting events for participants young and old, will kick-off Friday, 6:30 p.m., with the traditional opening day ceremonies in the North Central High School Track Stadi-

um.

Prior to the

festives, approximately 900 Scarborough athlete-residents, are expected to arrive in the

Circle City by bus, at which time they’ll be matched with Indianapolis hosting families. A growing list of dignitaries and civic leaders from the two cities are scheduled to participate in the opening ceremonies - headed by Mayors William H. Hudnit III, and Scarborough Mayor Paul Cos-

That sizzling Blacker’s Chili League of last season at the Meadows, is just about ready to resume that competitive bowl ing spirit! Under a change of name, teams and members of the Wood Vending Mixed League will meet Friday, 6:30 p.m. in the Playroom of Meadows Bowl.

According to league officials, the new league will feature 64 teams (there were 50 last season), making it the largest in the world. All members of teams in last season’s league, and new teams for this season are requested to attend this pre-season general meeting.

The Northside Football League, in existence since 1967, is holding final registration for their 1978 season for youths 8-14 years of age, Sunday (1 p.m.I, and Monday (5 p.m.) at the field, located near Broad Ripple Park. Registration fee is $10, which TURN TO PAGE 17
