Mrs. Anna S. Richardson was recently feted with a surprise birthday luncheon in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Prosper Ewing. Mrs. Richardson celebrating her 73rd birthday related that it was the first time in her life that she has been the recipient of a total surprise birth-

day event.

An August 31 wedding in Witherspoon Presbyterian Church is set by Miss Hallie Ann Beacham and Edward James Collins. Mr. and Mrs. Harold O.Owsley, 218 Berkley Road, are parents of the future bride. Dr. and Mrs. Daniel A.Collins of Mill Valley, Calif., are the prospective bridegroom's parents. Miss Beacham attendedSpelman College at Atlanta, Ga., and was an exchange student at Carleton University at Northfield, Minn. She was graduated from Butler University and is a sophomore medical student at Howard University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Mr. Collins was graduated from San Franc isco(Calif.) State College. He also is a sophomore at the Howard School of Medicine.

While the water flowed gently from the fountain and under tropical lights that provided beautiful colors to match the umbrella tables and other outdoor furnishings on the patio, strains of Hawaiian melodies were played as TheCreightons greeted their guests with alohas, beautiful leis and name tags to pin on the colorful shifts, shirts and pants outfits worn by the guests. Miss Rosetta Lewis of 3301 N. Butler, N.E., left for Atlanta, Ga., July 6 via Delta Airlines to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Sp/5 and Mrs. Frank W. Sutton and grandchildren who will reside at 2328 Oakview Rd., N.E. Entertainment enjoyed in-? eluded, sightseeing and the theater. Miss Lewis returned home July 12 to spend the remainder of her vacation visiting friends and relatives and viewing some of the sights of newer Indianapolis. Rested and refreshed Miss Lewis will terminate her vacation by returning to work July 22.

Mrs. Charles R. Cowan Sr. and he r son, Charles Jr., of Pacoima, Cal., and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert F. Boyd and tneir children, Karroll Geniece, Herbert, Jr., and Etta Marie, of San Fernando, Cal., made their safe return home after attending the funeral of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cochran who died June 10 and was burled June 15. She had been a member of the Pentecostal Apostolic Faith for 47 years. Mrs. Cochran was the mother of Mrs. Monroe Williams of 1231 1/2 W. Roache and grandmother of Mrs. Cowan and Mrs. Boyd.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Clemons Jr. returned home recently after spending the Fourth of July holiday in Boston, Mass., visiting with Mrs. Clemons' mother, Mrs. Martha Washington, and other relatives. A delightful and most i nteresting, educational trip was enjoyed. The Clemonses were accompanied by their three children, Frederick 111, Lisa Renee, and Darryle. Frederick will spend the rest of the summer with his grandmother and cousin, Norman Goodwin. Norman took Frederick to Little Wills YMCA Camp as his guest. Mr. Clemons is one of the city's leading interior decorators. He is ably assisted by his wife, Doris. They reside with their family at 270Buckingham Drive. *** Rev. and Mrs. RonaldYoung and children, Ronald and Kimberly, returned home recently after visiting in San Antonio, Tex. They were both participants in the wedding of Rev. Young's brother, Horace M. Young Jr., and Miss Yolanda Pratt. Rev, and Mrs. Young toured the Hemisphere, the Alamo, and other historical and interesting sights in San Antonio. • During their visit TheYoungs were the house guests of Rev. The fruit platter was beautiful with an assortment oftropical fruits around a huge Hawaiian pineapple. Traditional luau foods and drinks were served and even hula dancers were

briefly observed.

A very delightful evening was spent and enjoyed by all. Bridge tourney winners The Indianapolis Bridge Unit play featured mixed teams on Wednesday, July 10. The tournament was well attended, and those who didn't participate missed a grand game. First place winners were Maxie Davis and ImogeneBoyd, and Sam Jones and Delores Jones. Second place winners were Leander Parker and Jane Stout, and John Metzger and

Irene Metzger.

The next game is the first Wednesday in September. Good luck is wished to all bridge players going to the national tournament in San Francisco,

Cal., in August.

The beautifully decorat ed Christ Missionary Baptist Church was the setting Saturday, June 29, for the wedding of Miss Alleyne Marie Girton and Steven D. Garrett. The bride is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Melvin B. Girton. Mrs. Curtis McPhel is mother of the bridegroom. The groom's father is Milton Garrett. Preceding the ceremony, Miss Bertha Murray sang“Because." Dennis Freeman, minister of music of Christ Missionary Baptist Church, was accompanist. The wedding ceremony was read by Rev. M.B. Girton, pastor of Christ Missionary Baptist Church and father of the bride. Bridesmaids were Judy Garrett, Carol Henry, Phyllis Poindexter, Gertrude Finch, Bonnie Williams, and Joyce Collins. Miss Brenda Girton, aunt ofthe bride, was maid of honor. Larry Stewart served as best man. Groomsmen were Melvin B. Girton Jr., Anthony McNeal, Larry Fletcher, George O’Neal, Michael Yowell, and Roland Poindexter 11. Devon Girton was ring bearer and Karen Owens was flower girl. The beautiful reception was planned and served by Mrs. Lillian Cooney and Mrs.Bernice Bush. Mrs. Curtis Brunmmer, Miss Joyce Henry,Miss Terri Garrett and Miss Pamla Henry served the huge crowd of guests. The bridq is employed as a counselor with "Operation Outreach" and the groom is employed with Indiana National Bank. The couple is at home at 2734 Station, Apt. 2.

The Indianapolis Music Promoters will hold a mid-summer meeting Saturday, July 20, to formulate plans tor the 1968-69 club year. Charles T. Amos, president, will be host at the gathering in his home, 3945 Graceland, at 5 p.m. All newly-elected officers are urged to be present. Odd 13 club slates next affair The Odd 13 Club extends thanks to everyone who came to its affair July 13 at 3161 Riley. Many honors were bestowed on Alpha Delta Chapter of Pi Omicron Rho Omega Sorority of Indianapolis at the National Poro Association and Sorority Convention held in June at the Christopher Inn in Columbus, Ohio. Soror Florence Tucker was elected 2nd grand anti-basileus. Soror Frances Cavanaugh represented Soror Ruth A rmstrong as local queen in the national queen contest. Soror Cavanaugh was elected to the office of door keeper. Soror Armstrong, who won last year's national sorority queen contest, was able to keep her crown since she also was this year's winner. She sold the winning ticket for the raffle held for the queen contest. Prize winners wereSteven Pendler, a portable television, and Miss Rita Jackson, a transistor radio. Soror Vivian Owsley, who is local basileus, retained her national office as financial secre-

tary. At the Madhatter's national breakfast,Soror Owsley's madhat, “Hawaiian Islands," won first prize. She was the recipient of a beautiful white hat trimmed in black created by an Ohio designer. Soror Owsley also received recognition for outstanding service and was presented a scrow'l by the National Poro Association designating her a member of the Hall of Fame. The award was given at a formal banquet. At the first annual awards luncheon given by the sorority, honoree was Mrs. Etheline Alexander of Columbus, Ohio, National Poro Association treasurer. Greetings were extended by Mrs. Stanley Utz of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Guest speaker was Mrs. Juanita Webster of Columbus, Ohio, superintendent of schools. A sorie was given for sorors around the swimming pool by Alpha Chi Pi Omega Chapter of

Columbus. Delores O. Washgrand basileus. Eenestine Mahan of Cincinnati, Ohio, is founder. Mrs. Ruby Beard of Memphis, Tenn., is newlyelected president of the National Poro Association. The sorority regional meeting and National Poro Association board meeting will be held in November in Chicago, 111. Next year's convention will be held in June in Indianapolis at the Sheraton-Lincoln Hotel. Fashion show and tea are set by club The Friendly Workers Club will have a fashion show and tea Sunday, July 21, from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. at the Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs,2034 N. Capitol. Following the delightful annual summer tea, The Recorder Women Sponsors have launched their annual campaign for contributions to the 1968 Recorder Christmas Cheer Funds. The names of all contributors who give more than one dollar will be listed in the Christmas Issue of The Recorder under the name of the Sponsor securing their contributions. The tea which was held at the home of the director, Mrs. Paul A. Battles, attracted a representative number of fine and enthusiastic members ofthe organization of Sponsors who live in all parts of the city and who have succeeded in enlisting the broad and generous support of hundreds of altruisic community friends of the city who give annually to this worthy cause of helping some of the city's needy families, primarily at Christmas time, in an effort to let these families know that there are those who care. The meeting was opened with an Inspirational period of worship conducted by Mrs. Charles Russell assisted by Miss Ollle Terry and guest artist, Mrs. Martha Edwards of Cleveland. A beautiful prayer was offered by Mrs. Bertha Lewis. As part ofthe program during the tea, Otis Bryant, director of the housing relocation division of the Indianapolis Public Housing Commission, gave a very vivid and interesting presentation of local housing needs and
