OKs housing project, church The Metropolitan Plan Commission has approved plans for a $16 million, 160-unit public

housing apartment project to be located on 16.6 acres between 27th and 30th approximately 1,000 feet east of North Ritter. Also approved was a new Witherspoon United Presbyterian Church to be located on 10 acres on the west side of Northwestern, north of Grandview Drive. Witherspoon, now located at 436 W. 25th, has to move due to Interstate - 1-65. C. F. Allen is chairman of the Witherspoon board of trustees.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edwards held in Mt. Zion

MARTHA JACKSON EDWARDS Last Rites Are Held Mrs. Martha J. Edwards, 622 Udell, was buried in Crown Hill Cemettry, Aug. 31 following funeral services in Mt. Zion Baptist Church of which she was a member. She died Aug. 26 in the Henry Ford Hospital of Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Edwards, who earned a master of arts degree at Butler University, had been a teacher in the Indianapolis Public School System since 1944. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and was the organizer and first teacher of Bible Searchers Philathea Bible Class in the Mt. Zion Church. Survivors include a son, Solomon Edwards; two daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Goldsmith, Indianapolis, and Eilene Dearring, Detroit; five sisters and four brothers.

The school, which had almost 100 high school graduates last year, offers a program for students who desire to complete their high school education, or to gain more schooling or improve their cultural backgrounds. Art, foreign language, dramatics, speech, piano, and

homemaking are featured.

Sixty persons learned to operate an automobile last year in the drivers training class. Students drive in the evening from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or on Sat-

urdays. Tuition is $46.

Another interested group of classes offered are pre - high school classes where persons who did not have a chance to complete or attend school can learn to read and write under the guidance of specialized

teachers.

Another part of the total education program is carried on at Planner House, 333 W. 16th, Monday through Thursday for persons who wish to take the general education development test offered at the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners. Classes in math, English, social science and science are offered. Any person 16 years or older who is not enrolled in another high school may attend Crispus Attucks’ evening school.
