FRAHKLIN—The farmhouse residence of a Negro was the scene of a cross-burning and gunshots Wednesday night about four miles northeast of here.. John Golden, who lives in

the home, told officials he heard five shots after he heard a noise and saw two men in a cornfield adjacent to his yard. Recovered was a charred 2-by-3 foot wooden cross, which JohnsonCounty Sheriff Arthur Worrick said appeared to have been wrapped in rags and doused with kerosene or fuel oil.
