The hands on the silly old clock tell us that it’s time to put our typewriter away for another seven brights and since we’re recuperating we’d certainly like to do it where the temperature hovers around 100 degrees. That’s California where

our favorite beat still is Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, U.S.A., the City of Make Believe.

but a failure

New York’s Mayor Lindsay is catching hell in his first year in office. He made a lot of campaign promises that he can’t possibly keep. Folks hereabouts look for the subway fare to be raised very soon. We remember when it was only a nickel and they wrote a song called THIRTY ONE MILES FOR A NICKEL. Those days are gone forever as the price of a ride on the ‘dirty iron horse’ goes up and up. Lindsay promised he wouldn’t raise the fare. There’s rough sledding ahead for his

administration.

There is a hue and cry here in New York calling for the historian to re-write the history books and make them factual instead of false. The cry is for the truth to be told about all of the ethnic groups who helped build and develop this country. Whitey takes all of the credit but he didn’t do it by himself and all of the know how was not his. We have no ax to grind with whitey. We just want him to straighten up and fly right. He has rode a crooked mile for

too long a time.

HABIT KICKED BOSTON (NPI) — Blind blues singer Ray Charles ha? kicked the narcotics habit, medical officers testified in U. S. District court. Charles had pleaded guilty last Nov. 22 to a charge of possessing heroin and marijuana, and was ordered to undergo a medical examination at McLean Hospital. The testimony of medical authorities disclosed no evidence the singer had been using drugs. DAVIS STARS NEW YORK (NPI) — Sam my Davis Jr. appeared to be looking for a way to offset hi? second-best status on TV after his program was pullel off the air. Now he is starring in a movie, “A Man Called Adam,” scheduled for summer release. The film deals with the professional and personal problems of a jazz trumpet player who falls victim to his personality and surroundings.
