Arrest of "lewd women" halted by court order Representing Miss Connie Ault, 21, 2838 Paris Ave., Attorney Robert G. Mann obtained an order in Marion County Superior Court this week assailing the legality of a controversial city ordinance. The order or injunction was granted by Judge Wilbur H. Grant presiding in Superior Court, Two. The controversial ordinance is one under which police have arrested “lewd women or suspects” found on city streets at night. The order or injunction prevents enforcement of the ordinance against any woman. It is the second temporary order obtained by Miss Ault over a two weeks period. It was temporary and subject to review at a hearing over this weekend—_ Attorney Mann stated that the order was obtained so that a full-scale attack on the legality of the ordinance might be instituted in court. ATTORNEY MANN charged that police had been using the ordinance for harassment purposes. But police claim it has been the basis for “vice arrests” in several “night-life areas.”
