Members of the Progressive Motheres Club opened their season’s activities Tuesday evening, October 6, in the home of Mrs. Cecil Nolcox, president, 349 Buckingham Drive. A full course turkey dinner was enjoyed and served from tables beautifully decorated with floral arrangements by Atkins Flower Shop. The charming hostesses were Mrs. Gertrude Page and Mrs. Nolcox. In accordance with the club’s motto, “Onward and Upward,’’ programs are now being formulated for meetings throughout the coming year. Plans are for civic and chari-
table expressions with special emphasis on service and inspirational child guidance. A major annual project later in the season is selecting the “Mother of the Year.” Club officers, besides Mrs. Nolcox, are Mmes. The visual education committee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, along with the youth steering committee, has completed plans for its organ concert scheduled for Sunday, October 18. The committee is an interdenominational group intended to serve the entire community. Mrs. Stith is appearing for the second consecutive year. There is no admission charge since the program is aimed at allowing young people an opportunity to hear something of a cultural nature. Mrs. Stith started her musical career at Anderson College of Music. She studied piano, cello and organ with Professor Cecil Hartselle. Mrs. Stith travelled throughout the United States with the Edward Lango Jubilee Singers gaining wide musical experience and knowledge. She was organist of the Monumental Baptist Church for 13 years and recently accepted an organist position at Greater Bethesda Baptist Church, Chicago. The musician has given recitals in Chicago and Indiana. Mrs. Stith who is presently
