COMPLETES COURSE: James A. Moore Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., for 21 years president of Local 36 of the United Transport Service Employees, recently completed, along with 10 other representatives of international unions, a special fourweek course at the University of North Carolina. The Course, designed especially for unionist working in the South, included a study of problems of union organiza tion and administration with particular emphasis on economic, political and social conditions. FUEL TANK EXPLODES: Firemen are shown following a two-hour battle with a blaze which encompassed two Northsid£ homes Saturday afternoon. The blaze, damaging homes at 2129 Shriver and o next-door dwelling, started when a 275-galJon fuel oil tank exploded. James Harris, 27, 3155 N. Capitol, was draining the tank when the fire erupted. He suffered* a burned left leg and was' treated at the scene. Both homes were practically destroyed. Mrs. Rosa Allen's Funeral Rites Held in Gary GARY — Rites for Mrs. Rosa Lee Allen, 63, wife of Bishop J. Claude Allen, pastor of the Israel CMiE Church, were scheduled to be held Friday (April 19) at the church, with burial in Fern Oaks Cemetery. Mrs. Allen died Monday after a week of confinement at Methodist ! Hospital. She and her husband, a foimer school board member, resided at 755 W. 26th Ave. ! Formerly a school teacher at ! Columbia, S.C., where she was born, Mrs. Allen attended Allen University there. She met and married Bishop Allen in 1926 and the couple came to Gary in 1934 after he was appointed pastor of the church he still heads. Mrs. Allen was an enthusiatic and active community worker. For ■seven years she was president of jthe Urban League block unit of her

neighborhood. Much of her time vas devoted to helping her husband in his church work. She was for 26 years a teacher in the Sunday School, member of the J. C. Martin Club in the church, and sponsored the A C. Bailey Usher Board. Bishop B. W. Doyie, of Nashville, Tenn., was scheduled to officiate during the funeral services. Survivors, besioes her husband. : include a daughter, Mrs. Claudia ! Shannon. Cleveland, O.; four sisters, Mrs. Maxine Martin, Wash- | ington, D C., Mrs. Cardina Vaughn land Mrs. Verdell Fleming, Gary, 1 and two brothers, Ulysses Martin, Hampton, Vu., and Walter Martin, Detroit.

Mrs. Laura Black. 75, 1850 Arrow, was buried in New Crown Cemetery April 16 following rites at King & King Funeral Home. She died April 12 at her home. Mrs. Black, born at Nashville, Tenn.. had resided here 55 years.

ORRVILLE, OHIOAN, VISITS RELATIVES IN INDIANAPOLIS Mrs. Garnet Robinson of Orrville, Ohio, is visiting relatives here. She was called to Indianapolis in February to attend funeral services.
