BLAZERS.

EARL BOSTIC’S FLYING FOX, a cocktail lounge and restaurant of the first calibre, is a must on anyone’s round of pleasure spots. The cuisine is excellent, the decor most appealing and the location is the last word. The bandleader’s wife acts in a hostess capacity and assures everyone a pleasant visit. MR B’S SUPPER CLUB, located ill THE CARVER HOUSE over LAS VEGAS way is open and being managed by the bandleader, EAGLE EYE SHIELDS. The casino is not open and Shields told us, by way of long-distance, that the room is just breaking even. We have been successful in putting him in contact with THE MAGNIFICIENT GUETIN who, we understand, will get an early opening date there. His is a terrific act and he deserves a break. Naptowners will remember him as the petite ‘fire dancer’ who appeared at the Flamingo and the old PINK POODLE. The FOUR SOUNDS would do well to send a resume and lobbies to SHIELDS. Carver House is located at the corner of

Jackson and “P” streets.

Since JACQUE DURHAM is completing the enlargement of his MISSILE ROOM in the EBONY CLUB it proves that he’s progressive and isn’t hated by everyone as a lot of folks would have you think. I say more power to him regardless of anyone’s personal feelings. His is a good location that any ofay would grab if

he could.

The movie titled “TWENTY THOUSAND STEPS TO NOWHERE” in which we play the part of JEDOD, a French-speaking Algerian thief, has been completed and will be released through the I.F.D. (Independent Film Distributors) sometime in May. The story is about the Algerian-French seven year war and was filmed partly in the Nevada desert and partly in Algeria. The part came our way from a screen test given us by REPUBLIC PICTURES when we flew out here to record our first album in 1960. We have the last laugh on R.B. who has always criticized and laughed at pur efforts. Ha! Ha! Ha! The film is

a KESSLER production.

The time has come to call quits and get this copy in the mail. I Next week we’ll be writing

portunity” . . . “For a long time many Negroes and other minority group members saw little sense in education or job skill training. They weren’t going to get good jobs no matter how able they were. “This pattern is breaking . . . “They need talent where they can ^et it, and they are willing

to reward it.

“This is especially true in public agencies, government contract work and the armed forces. “Along with this, many unskilled jobs are disappearing. The untrained uneducated worker is the one at the end of the unem-

ployment line.

“The change has left many Ne-

groes behind.”

(Note: This is exactly what we have been saying for years.) Just to look at the many grown-up men and women who can hardly read their names is enough to make you want to cry. These people are hopeless . . . unless they return to night school and learn some kind of trade or take advantage of the Government’s Job Opportunity program. This thing is more serious than you think! THE TIME has come when Negroes MUST stop this nonsensical mouthing . . . and get down to ' bizzness . . . Simply putting our MONEY where our MOUTH is— and Pardner, this is no joke! Mrs. Mary Crowdus celebrated her 72nd birthday on March 27 She’s the lovely mother of our compositor George White and the delovely Ermadel Civils. Friends of Alice May Parker want her to hurry up and get well. The young lady was recently released from General Hospital. IN THE MAIL BAG—“Dear Mr. Gibson: “I’ve been wondering how long it would take some people to reach the business-invest-

ment stage.

“For instance, last spring I drove all over town seeking a plant nursery run by a Negro, before purchasing the border seedlings and ground ivy for spring planting that annually represents about $2.00 per householder out in the surburbs! “Since I’m paralyzed, I cannot do this for myself . . . and even housewives could start the seedlings in window boxes as I used to do, pooling their stock in small oots for the pre-Easter sale somewhere north by renting a corner and setting up a shaded stand for the Sunday drivers, etc. “I’ll need $5.00 worth of pink

dwarf phlox.” “Best wishes,

“Maria Burkett.” A wonderful business idea for somebody, don’tcha-think ?
